If you’ve been looking for an ideal place to live, close to the country and great commuter links, call off the search. Church Gate is our very latest development – a contemporary mix of 1 & 2 bedroom refurbished and new apartments, all built to a high
specification.
Surrounded by open moorlands, river valleys and country parks, Milnrow couldn’t be more perfectly situated. And as you’d expect from a traditional market town, there’s a real sense of community here. A butcher’s, baker’s, and flourishing flower shop sit alongside small local stores, a new medical centre, library, church and charming English pubs.
All of this is on your doorstep, whilst Rochdale, Oldham and Manchester’s vibrant day and night scenes aren’t too far away at all.
Getting around
Ideally situated at the foot of the Pennines (Junction 21 of the M62), Church Gate offers easy access to both Rochdale and Oldham, whilst Manchester is around 10 miles away. The train station is just moments away, with regular trains to Manchester and Yorkshire taking approximately 30 minutes. And if you’re planning to travel further afield, Manchester International Airport is around 18 miles away.
An industrious past
Formerly an industrious mill town, it’s believed Milnrow’s name has in fact evolved from the olde English ‘Millner Howe,’ miller on the hill. Apparently, a water driven corn mill appeared on the deeds of a home dating back to 1568 (found on Mill Hill, on the River Beal).
History has certainly left its mark on this traditional village. Pretty weavers’ cottages and mill workers’ terraced homes create a picturesque backdrop to life. It’s also the home of Ellenroad Engine House, where ‘Victoria’ and ‘Alexandra’, the world’s largest steam cotton mill engines, are maintained in working order, and can still be seen in action on the first Sunday of each month.
Your future
Whether it’s a gentle stroll or something a little more exhilarating, Hollingworth Lake Country Park offers endless opportunities – and it’s just moments away from Chapel Gate. From sailing, canoeing and swimming, to rafting, rowing or fishing, there’s so much to choose from. Take a trip across the lake on ‘The Lady Alice,’ or visit the nature reserve. It’s a great place to head with friends.
If it’s a vibrant nightlife you’re looking for, you won’t have to travel far to find one. World class leisure, cultural and sporting facilities are literally at your fingertips.
