Eastbourne boasts a choice of four theatres offering a diverse range of home grown and West End productions. The Towner Art Gallery hosts a nationally acclaimed year-round programme of contemporary and historical art exhibitions. And for music lovers there are many live concerts to take advantage of. The town also hosts many events that attract visitors from near and far. See top ladies world tennis champions battle it out on some of the best grass courts in the world, or keep your eyes to the skies at Eastbourne's International Air Show. With numerous cinemas, nightclubs, pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes and age groups.
As you'd expect, all the big high street names are in Eastbourne. Conveniently located in the compact, pedestrianised town centre. There are also plenty of taxis to help you home if you do decide to go on a spree. Nearby is the modern Arndale Centre with more popular high street stores alongside independent ones. Next to the railway station is the Enterprise Centre with its interesting mix of independent traders whilst opposite is the collector's market, a must for anyone looking for something a bit different. Away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre is the area known as 'Little Chelsea'. Built more than a century ago, this was originally Eastbourne's main shopping area. Nowadays, you'll find an eclectic mix of more than 60 independent retailers selling a diverse range of original products and items alongside art galleries and antiquarian bookstores.
Eastbourne offers an extensive choice of restaurants, cafes and pubs to suit all tastes and budgets. Ice-creams, cappuccinos, baguettes and everything you need for a beach picnic can all be bought on the seafront. Or taste the freshly caught shellfish at the Perrywinkles stand by the pier. When it comes to more formal dining, all the flavours of the world are represented. You'll find Turkish, Japanese and Mexican restaurants, as well as French, Thai and Chinese. Or go for a delicious Italian meal at one of three restaurants in the recently opened 'Italian Quarter'. No Eastbourne experience is complete without sampling the famous Sussex Cream Tea at the award-winning Edwardian style Pavilion Tea Rooms. And for lunch or a casual supper, there are many town and country style pubs with excellent food to choose from.
Transport
Eastbourne is accessible by road and rail and is close to Gatwick International Airport and cross channel ferry ports. The main approach from London is the A22 with the journey taking approximately 1½ - 2 hours.
Trains from London Victoria are frequent and the journey takes approximately 80 minutes. There are also regular train services linking Eastbourne with Brighton, Lewes and Hastings, and an hourly service which connects with the Eurostar at Ashford.
Travel in an around the town itself is easy with a range of bus, taxi and car rental options available.
