Wed, Oct 31st 2007, 10:00

The latest phase of Redrow Regeneration’s landmark scheme, Barking Central, has been launched for sale this month. No 87 Axe Street is a mixed tenure scheme comprising 40 one and two bedroom apartments, 22 of which will be private whilst 18 will be affordable.

No 87 Axe Street has been designed by leading architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) and complements the geometric style of the Barking Library and Learning Centre and phase 1 housing. At eight storeys high, No 87 Axe Street is a low-rise building which will offer 4 penthouses on the top floor with views over Canary Wharf. Five different layout specifications are available.

Barking Central is a landmark mixed-use scheme in Barking town centre, which is already revitalising the centre of Barking, bringing education and new investment to the borough and setting new benchmarks both in quality and in values. The project marks the beginning of ambitious regeneration plans for the borough and is one of the first Thames Gateway schemes to be truly delivered.  Barking Central is the result of a public/private partnership between the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (LBBD) and Redrow Regeneration.

No 87 Axe Street kicks off the beginning of phase 2 development, which will introduce 272 residential apartments including three bedroom affordable ‘family’ apartments, as well as 21,000 sq ft of commercial space and 18,500 sq ft of retail space. In addition, a new public realm larger than Trafalgar Square will be built as one of the Mayor of London’s ‘100 Public Spaces’ initiative.

Peter Green, for Redrow Regeneration comments, ‘the launch of No87 Axe Street is a great opportunity to buy into the biggest facelift Barking town centre has ever experienced. Barking Central is breathing new life into Barking and the wider Thames Gateway region. No 87 Axe Street is a great building which offers residents a town centre location with the benefit of high interior specification and spacious room sizes.’
