Buy with a little help from your friends
Thu, Apr 6th 2006, 11:00
Half of today’s first time buyers would consider buying with a buddy to get onto the property ladder.
That’s the result of a web poll conducted by house builder Redrow, where 50% of respondents confirmed that when the going gets tough in the housing market, the tough would turn to their friends for support.
By contrast, of those who already own a home, only one percent said they’d bought with a friend or relative, while 32% purchased their first home alone and 67% chose the more traditional route of buying their first property with their spouse or partner.
Catherine Cloke, sales manager for Redrow Homes (East Midlands), says: “What this web poll shows is a shift in attitude and behaviour as many people are now staying single later on in life and buying with friends may be a more viable option to enjoy city living.
“We’re already witnessing examples of friends clubbing together to buy a new home at our developments and we certainly believe that our contemporary apartments at Lindum Point in Lincoln could be the ultimate pad to buy with a friend.”
Lindum Point is Redrow’s stunning apartment venture offering the best of city and country life. It’s located off Carlton Square, and is part of the Bunkers Hill development, which also includes the Carlton Centre retail park and other residential schemes. As well as the shopping centre, the area is well served by other amenities, including a newly opened restaurant, children’s crèche and dental surgery, and is just over a mile from the centre of Lincoln.
Redrow’s 98 apartments will be housed within two striking buildings which front onto beautifully landscaped gardens for the residents and public to enjoy. Private car parking is also provided in landscaped and block paved courtyards.
The majority of the apartments will offer two bedrooms. With an en-suite shower room to the master suite as well as a main bathroom, these homes will be perfect for friends who want to share a home but not their soap and toothbrush. Prices start from £127,500 for a two-bedroom apartment.
To further encourage budding home owners to take the plunge, Redrow is also currently offering a ‘£99 move in’ deal on selected apartments at Lindum Point, whereby the 5% deposit is taken care of and Redrow will also pay £1000 towards legal costs.
Catherine continues: “Our offer should particularly help first-time buyers get onto the property ladder and also those who haven’t saved up large deposits or extra cash for legal fees.
“With hardly any initial cash outlay, the deal should also appeal to the professional twenty and thirty-something’s, who regard a quality lifestyle as a priority. Buyers in this age-group are having too much of a good time to think about saving for a deposit – this is where our £99 deal can make all the difference.”
Those who think two heads are better than one should visit Redrow’s Lindum Point development to view the stylish two-bedroom show apartment, or call in to the marketing suite to find out more about buying with a friend, plus the ‘£99 move in’ deal.
