Sunnier days ahead for local charity

Mon, Jan 14th 2008, 12:00

The Redrow Foundation has added another £17,500 to the £24,000 already donated, providing enough to completely fund the building of a sun lounge at the Cheddle Lodge residential care home.

Both service users and visiting family members will benefit from the lounge which overlooks the scenic gardens at Cheddle Lodge. As well as providing a meeting area perfect for catching up and socialising, the sun room will be free of distractions such as televisions or audio equipment meaning there will also be time for relaxation and rest.

The Cheddle Lodge project is a residential home offering long-term and respite care for up to 13 adults with cerebral palsy. A team of fully trained staff and volunteers provide high quality and individualised support to residents who use the service.

Chief Executive of Stockport CPS, Fergus Lomas, says: “Residents of Cheddle Lodge and their families are delighted with the new sun lounge.  We cannot thank the Redrow Foundation enough for their amazing generosity and support.”

The Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society was established in 1953 and supports people with physical or learning difficulties. It works to ensure that children and adults who have cerebral palsy can lead full and independent lives.

Paul Pedley, trustee of the Foundation, says: “It’s so exciting to finally see the sun room at Cheddle Lodge completely finished and being put to such good use by the residents. The work that the Society does is truly admirable and we are delighted to see the Foundation’s money being invested to provide these additional facilities that will be enjoyed by so many.”

The Redrow Foundation was established to celebrate the housebuilder’s 50,000th legal completion and a £50 contribution is now made to the trust for every home sold – including those at new development, Cooper Court, in Hazel Grove, near Stockport.

In excess of £300,000 has already been donated to charities all over the UK which support the relief of poverty and sickness and, in particular, provide accommodation and related assistance, including respite care, to children, the elderly and those who are sick or infirm.
