Stoke’s first-timers camp out for Redrow’s £55,000 life line

The first release of 60 new homes from Redrow’s Debut range has sold-out in less than five hours to the city’s eager first-time buyers.
More than 300 people keen to step onto the property ladder queued outside the Britannia Stadium to secure a Debut home – starting from just £55,000 – within Pavilion Lock, off Ivy House Road in Hanley. Some first-time buyers - armed with tents, flasks and sandwiches – even set-up camp on Saturday night ready for Sunday’s launch (March 19).
Linda Androlia, sales director for Redrow Homes (West Midlands), says: “The response to our Debut range in Hanley has been nothing short of phenomenal. The sale of the whole of our first phase within five hours just goes to prove the urgent need for these sorts of homes within Hanley and for local first-time buyers to be given the opportunity to own their own place.
“It also marks a fantastic start for ‘City Waterside’ – the £177 million regeneration scheme that will create a modern urban neighbourhood alongside the Caldon Canal. It will be a fabulous location for anyone’s first home and we’re very grateful to English Partnerships, RENEW North Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, British Waterways, the Housing Corporation and the North Staffordshire Regeneration Zone for their support in bringing the Debut range to Stoke.”
Pavilion Lock will eventually feature 137 Debut properties along with a mix of other canalside apartments, town houses and three and four-bedroom homes, with a finished value of circa £27.5 million, as part of Redrow’s plans for the regeneration of Wedgwood’s former Eagle Pottery site.
Debut’s one and two-bedroom homes boast a fresh modern design, with sloping high ceilings, lots of window space to let light flood in and a contemporary layout. Prices and running costs are kept as low as possible, including a single monthly service charge to cover the main utility bills and external maintenance for easy budgeting.
The homes are constructed using a lightweight steel frame combined with modern materials, which ensures quality, sustainability and energy efficiency, complemented by high performance communal heating and hot water systems.
Redrow’s own management company will maintain the carefully designed communal squares and landscaped areas. Cycle stores will be incorporated into layouts and waste segregation facilities will enable recycling of household waste.
When buying a Debut home customers can use Redrow’s interest-free deferred payment scheme. This means home owners have the option of deferring a proportion of the price (usually 10%) of their new Debut home for up to 10 years, on a fixed sum basis, which can be paid back via occasional lump sums, monthly repayments or in whole at any time.
