VIP treatment for talented young designers

Redrow Homes held a ‘design a bedroom’ competition for children from the Joshua Foundation, a charity which provides holidays and fun experiences for children with cancer.

The housebuilder has used the winning child’s design as inspiration in the new show home at their Awel-Y-Mor development in Swansea. Four other youngsters, named as runners up, have had their creative drawings transformed into artwork, which is also on display in the property.

The five talented artists were picked up from home in a ‘Scooby Doo’ limousine and mystery machine and transported to Awel-y-Mor, where they received VIP treatment and saw their designs come to life in the new home.
The property has been given a professional makeover by Redrow’s chosen interior design company, Connections in Design, who took eight-year-old Kayleigh Long’s winning design and transformed it into a beautiful child’s bedroom with a pink and orange butterfly theme.

Joint second place runners-up Korri James, 11, from Cardiff, and Laen Williams, four, from Blackwood, and joint third runners-up Leigh Alice Hillier, from Neath, and Joshua Norman, from Barry, both seven, joined Kayleigh, from Cwmbran, to officially cut the ribbon to open the new show home.

A spokesman for the charity said: “Everyone at The Joshua Foundation would like to say congratulations to all the children who took part. We would also like to say a big thank you to Rachael and her team for providing these children with such a brilliant opportunity”

Rachael Davies, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales), said: “We are very grateful to the children from the Joshua Foundation for coming up with such creative ideas. Their designs and artwork really gives the show home the feel of a welcoming family home.

“More than just a housebuilder, Redrow strives to get involved in the communities in which we build. We are very proud to be associated with The Joshua Foundation, which does such wonderful work supporting children and their families and we hope the children enjoyed their special day.”
