Redrow sculpts relationship with Grantham School

Thu, Mar 20th 2008, 16:30

Famous for being the inspiration behind Sir Isaac Newton developing the idea of gravity, the humble apple is now being celebrated in the form of a unique piece of artwork.

Carved out of Ancaster stone by stonemason Peter Linnell, of G H Linnell, in Castlegate, the design was unveiled before pupils, teachers and school governors.  Also present were sponsors of the sculpture, including Redrow Homes, who contributed £500 towards the cost.

Responsible for the adjoining Newton’s Walk new homes venture, the award-winning house builder has forged strong links with Isaac Newton Primary, last year donating pebbles for a beach scene created within the school grounds.

Stephen Tapley, head teacher, says: “Ourselves and Redrow have a very close relationship as their Newton’s Walk development is adjacent to our school grounds. Throughout their time building here Redrow has been extremely generous and not only did the company make a cash donation towards our new art sculpture, which is the first thing you see as you walk up to the entrance hall of the school, but it also contributed to our school beach that we made within the grounds last summer.”

Helping to fund the school’s new sculpture is the latest example of Redrow’s commitment to supporting the communities in which it builds.

Pauline Turnbull, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands), says: “Redrow doesn’t just build new homes. We aim to create communities and to enhance the existing communities in which we operate. Building relationships with local schools, like Isaac Newton, is an important part of this and, ultimately, is beneficial to everyone concerned.

“We’ve earned the Business in the Community PerCent Standard for four consecutive years for giving at least one percent of our pre-tax profits back to the community as either cash donations, sponsorship, employee time or gifts in kind.”

As well as unveiling its new sculpture, the Isaac Newton School is also celebrating an excellent Ofsted report which has seen the school make major improvements and is now riding high on the success of all of its hard work over the past couple of years.

The school’s Ofsted success will be music to the ears of any parents thinking of purchasing one of the new homes currently available at Newton’s Walk, a development which features everything from two-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom detached family homes.  Redrow’s development is situated in the popular market town of Grantham, just a short distance from the beautiful countryside of the Vale of Belvoir.

Current availability includes two-bedroom apartments from just £106,950, and a mixture of three-bedroom and four bedroom homes priced from £165,950.

Grantham itself benefits from excellent road and rail links and is approximately 25 miles south of the historical city of Lincoln. It is a popular choice for commuters working in the East Midlands, with both the A1 and A52 within easy reach, providing links to the surrounding cities of Peterborough, Nottingham and Leicester. Grantham train station, just a 10-minute walk away, can take commuters to London in one hour.
