Redrow scores a charity try

Mon, Mar 6th 2006, 11:00

A former England rugby captain was guest of honour at a charity event which raised £10,000 for good causes.

Bill Beaumont OBE was the guest speaker at house builder Redrow’s annual sportsman’s dinner, held at the Hilton National Hotel in Coventry, and attended by 250 staff of Redrow Homes (Midlands), sub-contractors, suppliers and their guests.

Through ticket sales, raffles, auctions and a personal donation from the company, Redrow has now been able to make £5,000 cash contributions to both St Giles Hospice in Lichfield and the British Heart Foundation.

David Campbell-Kelly, managing director of Redrow Homes (Midlands), said: “We’re delighted to be able to make really sizeable donations to both our local nominated charity, St Giles Hospice, and our national choice, the British Heart Foundation.

“Our annual Sportsman’s dinner is always one of the highlights of the working year – to have raised £10,000 is fantastic and will, I’m sure, benefit our nominated charities greatly.

“I would like to thank our contractors and suppliers for supporting our fund raising efforts by donating prizes for the raffles and buying tickets on the night.”

Redrow is one of the UK’s top 10 house builders and has a strong presence across the Midlands, including high profile schemes such as Jupiter in Birmingham city centre, the Dickens Heath new village near Solihull and refurbishment of the former St Edwards Hospital in Cheddleton, near Leek.

The company hit the headlines last year with the introduction of its innovative and affordable Debut range for first time buyers. These unique homes were offered at prices starting from just £54,995, with purchasers able to defer 10% of the purchase price for up to 10 years bringing the initial outlay to just £49,995. The first Debut scheme at Rugby was a sell-out success and Redrow’s follow up at Castle Vale, Birmingham, is also proving popular.
