Charming harbour views the key to Surrey couple's hearts

Lindsay Adams and her partner Paul Westwood purchased an apartment at Redrow Homes’ sought-after development in Sovereign Harbour, initially to use as a weekend and holiday home after visiting Eastbourne with family for the New Year celebrations.
Lindsay, head of finance at a pharmaceutical company, said: “The idea to buy a home here was originally an impulse when we discovered The Boardwalk while we were in Eastbourne with our family over New Year. We called in on a cold, wet day so we couldn’t have seen it in a worse light for our first look, but we still loved it.
“We then visited again the following weekend to look at the show home and found our apartment, which has a massive 800 sq ft balcony. We fell in love with the views out over the harbour basin and after much research decided the apartment was good value for money.”
Lindsey and Paul, who is head of procurement for an aeronautical communications company, currently own a three-bedroom home and a stylish Victorian apartment in Reigate and Redhill respectively. They plan to sell the apartment, move in together and split their time between their remaining Reigate home, which will become their Surrey work base, and their two-bedroom Redrow apartment at The Boardwalk.
Paul added: “We like spending time by the sea and we enjoy visiting Brighton but we felt Eastbourne was the best choice for a home. We wanted to address our work / life balance and saw the potential of a marina lifestyle with its restaurants, bars and walks along the beach to the adjacent Pevensey Bay and into Eastbourne itself. We had considered a property abroad but the most important factor for a weekend home is the travel affordability and ease of access, and we can make it here in an hour.”
Tina Chalk, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (Southern), said: “This part of the south coast has always been a popular holiday or weekend destination for people from Surrey as its easily accessible and provides that ‘escape’ from the trappings of everyday life.
“Quite a few people have chosen to buy second homes at our development, perhaps with a view to retiring here later in life , although others wanting a handy holiday retreat will have to be quick though as there are only a small number of apartments left. We’ve already sold more than 90 per cent, which proves the phenomenal success we have experienced in Eastbourne.”
There are still a number of one and two-bedroom apartments available in the Centauri and Bimini buildings, as well as two spacious and elegant three-bedroom penthouses.
The bold exterior design draws on maritime influences, reflected in the eye catching facades of the six buildings, which feature splashes of blue and yellow and utilise an unusual combination of aluminium, canvas and wood. A timber decked walkway separates the buildings and enhances the character of the development.
Prices at The Boardwalk currently start from £199,000. The last remaining fabulous penthouses are priced at £650,000 and £657,000.
Visit The Boardwalk daily from 10am – 5.30pm to view the outstanding penthouse view home and the fully furnished show apartment. For more information call the sales team on 01323 472194 or immerse yourself at www.theboardwalk.redrow.co.uk.
