Two new show homes 'take off' in Farnborough

Mon, Apr 28th 2008, 16:45

For the first time since the award-winning housebuilder began work at Farnborough Central, on the site of the former Royal Aircraft Establishment, home buyers can experience first hand the lifestyle that’s waiting to be enjoyed in these beautifully decorated and furnished homes, which are now open to view.
Redrow’s chosen interior designers have given a two-bedroom apartment a stylish art-deco look to suit the profile of a young couple looking for a new home and transformed a three-bedroom house into a vibrant and contemporary property that’s ideal for a family.
Tina Chalk, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (Southern), said: “The fabulous show homes will help homebuyers to picture themselves living at Farnborough Central; a development which will appeal to people looking for something a bit different from their new home.

“In the two-bedroom show apartment, the designers have gone for art deco style décor, to complement the exterior architectural features of the development. The interior is chic to suit a young professional couple or a single person, with a strong colour-scheme of creams, bronze and black.
“Glamourous touches, including black leather furniture and a dramatic five-light pendant in the living area, and chandelier and mirrored bedside furniture in the master bedroom give the scheme an opulent feel.

“Likewise in the three-bedroom home, the look we have gone for is very luxurious, but the colour-scheme of soft grey, white, aubergine and limey yellow, gives the home a fresh and bright feel. The designers have tailored the interior to suit a couple with a teenage son.

“Chrome light fittings and aluminium accessories provide a contemporary twist on a traditional family home and homebuyers with a keen eye for style will appreciate the vibrant feature walls, modern artwork and high-specification fixtures and fittings.

“The show homes have been purpose built and are attached to our well-equipped marketing suite, where homebuyers can view computer-generated images, floor plans and a scale model of the development. They can also view some fascinating historic photography of the old site before we began this amazing transformation.”

The 12-acre development, Farnborough Central, will eventually feature a mix of 54 new townhouses, 85 refurbished apartments in two existing buildings of historic interest, plus 194 new-build apartments, all sympathetically designed with art deco and modernist influences.

The wider site formerly comprised the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) and continues to be the home for the world famous Farnborough Aerodrome and the biennial Farnborough International Airshow, which attracts around 300,000 visitors every two years and celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2008.
IQ Farnborough, next to the residential area, is one of the largest business development sites in the south east of England, with planning consent granted for 1.67 million square feet of business space. As well as over 200,000 sq ft of built office space it also includes a café, crèche and heritage centre. A four-star hotel, with leisure complex, is due to open in the near future.

Redrow’s homes will be adjacent to the ‘heritage quarter’ and alongside two of the most interesting aeronautical legacies of the former RAE – a pair of Grade 1 listed wind tunnel buildings. The largest, a 24 ft wind tunnel, was used to test full-sized aircraft prototypes, while the transonic wind tunnel was used to test aircraft including Concorde.  These buildings are being retained and restored by Segro (Slough Estates Group), who are developing commercial property nearby.

Prices at Farnborough Central currently start from £175,000 for an apartment, £260,000 for a three-bedroom home and £315,000 for a four-bedroom townhouse.

Redrow has introduced a number of measures to help homebuyers under the umbrella of ‘re:assure from Redrow’, which are all designed to make moving as easy as possible right through from the moment of first enquiry to after the customer has moved in. The package includes measures to help people sell their current property at the best possible price, or could include help with the monthly mortgage repayments for up to two years.
