Tue, Apr 29th 2008, 17:00
The all weather pitches at the award-winning Chorley housing and employment venture, have felt the first thud of feet following an action packed holiday programme attended by local children.
As well as hockey and football tournaments, the local children were treated to a multi-sports day involving cricket, football and hockey games.
The events were part of Chorley Council’s ‘Get Up and Go’ initiative that runs sporting programmes for local children in school holidays throughout the year.
The floodlit pitches - that can be hired by Buckshaw residents at a discounted price –have been provided by the joint developers of Buckshaw Village, Barratt and Redrow Homes, and are currently managed by Community Leisure Facilities (CLS) on behalf of the Developers Redrow Barratts. They are capable of holding eleven a-side football and five/seven a-side hockey games. A further two grass pitches will be playable for the September 08 season and work has now begun on building new changing rooms.
John Daglish, project manager for Redrow Homes (Lancashire) says: “The sports pitches are an integral part of the community facilities being provided at Buckshaw Village and it’s great to see them up and running and being used by local youngsters.”
More than just a housing development, Buckshaw Village also boasts a thriving office park and will eventually feature a wide range of community facilities, including shops, a community centre, health centre and railway station, while a new primary school is also planned.
Duncan Wishart, commercial director for Barratt Manchester, comments: “Five years since construction work began, Buckshaw Village is a huge success with over a thousand homes occupied, businesses thriving, village shops trading and a new pub open. More shops are planned for the southern commercial sector, work is due to begin on the new railway station this autumn and detailed drawings are being prepared for the proposed community centre.”
The new sports facilities are available for hire Monday –Friday evenings 6pm until 10pm and Saturday mornings. For details of how to book, call 01257 515060
