Join the party for fifth anniversary celebrations at Buckshaw Village, Chorley

Fri, May 2nd 2008, 11:00

Birthday celebrations are underway at Buckshaw Village, the award winning new community near Chorley, where developer Redrow is throwing a month-long party to mark five years of success.

An exciting treasure hunt, exhilarating hot air balloon rides and wine tasting are all on the menu, along with a spot of old-time dancing, an exhibition featuring the site’s past, present and future, plus a five-a-side football tournament for local schools and businesses.

Featuring a treasure hunt this Saturday (May 10th), the celebrations will culminate in a bumper family fun day on Sunday June 1st, which will include a children’s fairground ride, an entertainer, bouncy castles, refreshments and tethered rides in the Redrow hot air balloon.

Christine Aitken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), says: “Buckshaw Village has been a huge success, popular with home owners and businesses alike; and winner of a national award for the UK’s ‘Best New-Build Village’. It’s transformed a massive industrial wasteland into a sought-after place to live, work and play – and we think that’s definitely a reason to celebrate five times over.”

Flat shoes and a quick pace is all that will be needed for this weekend’s treasure hunt.  Visitors will have to move quickly in order to find one of the five giant red and white keys hidden around the development – with the chance to win one of five fabulous prizes donated by local businesses
The planned exhibition will be open for viewing from Saturday 17th May and will show just how much progress developers have made since they took over the former Royal Ordnance Factory site, near Euxton; and for those who like to celebrate with a little tipple in hand, a wine tasting event on Sunday 25th May promises to be a bubbly affair

In a shout out to the good old days, the award-winning housebuilder is also sponsoring a reunion tea dance for ex-ROF Chorley workers who want to reminisce about their past times on the factory floor.

Taking place at Worden Sports College, in Westfield Drive, Leyland, on May 21st, it will be preceded with a grand bus tour of Buckshaw Village – allowing guests to see the 21st century transformation of their former workplace.

Christine Aitken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire) says: “When planning the celebrations, we wanted to make sure we had something that everyone could enjoy – and with the long list of planned events, I think we have achieved it.

“The grand finale on June 1st will be a great day out for existing residents of Buckshaw Village as well as those who are thinking about making it their home, as they’ll be able to see for themselves the fantastic community spirit that already exists and hopefully will want to be part of it.”

Buckshaw Village is a joint venture set in the heart of Lancashire, between the M6 and M61. Along with the 2,000 plus new homes – around half of which have been built - there is an 80-acre business park and further commercial areas planned. There are also proposals for a district shopping centre, provision for a new railway station with park and ride facilities, a primary school and health centre, while new outdoor sports amenities have just opened.
