Three-storey living offers solutions for 21st century life

Newport homebuyers could be living the high life with a new three-storey house on the banks of the River Usk.
A selection of stylish three-bedroom homes with ‘ready-made loft conversions’ and four-bedroom townhouses are on sale at Redrow’s Alexandra Gate development, offering spacious homes in a great location near the town centre.
Julie Ells, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales), said: “Three-storey homes offer families and other homebuyers the opportunity to choose how they use the extra space in their property and be creative and flexible with the internal layout
“Whilst three-storey living was popular back in Victorian times, living spread over three floors today is a contemporary solution to modern day life, and we’ve found that buyers at all stages of the property buying ladder appreciate its appeal – from young families right through to downsizers.
The first floor living areas can offer extra privacy, with many buyers taking the opportunity to give teenagers and older children their own space and independence, which can be difficult to do in the traditional two-storey home. And people who work from home can also benefit, as a home office can often be tucked away on the top floor, separating ‘home’ and ‘work’ lives.”
The ‘Lambourne’ house type at Alexandra Gate has a flexible layout. With its master bedroom and en-suite in the cleverly converted roof space and two further bedrooms and a main bathroom on the first floor, the Lambourne offers plenty of living space options. Rooms not needed as bedrooms can double as home office space, a games room or maybe a gym.
Likewise, the ‘Neale’ offers growing families plenty of room to spread out, with a kitchen, a living room and a cloakroom on the ground floor, a master bedroom with an en-suite shower room and a lounge on the first floor and three further double bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor.
Julie added: “Alexandra Gate is a fabulous location for people looking for a new waterfront home in the heart of this forward-thinking city, which is enjoying the same sort of investment that has changed the fortunes of Cardiff and Swansea, and has a very bright future.”
The new homes are part of a major facelift for Newport and the first part of the wider regeneration plans for Old Town Dock. The surrounding area will also contain an office district, an 80-room hotel, a park and other facilities all set along the banks of the River Usk.
With the M4 motorway nearby providing easy access to other major towns and cities, including Cardiff and Bristol, the development is perfect for commuters working outside of Newport.
Properties at the development are currently priced from £126,995 for a one-bedroom apartment. Lambourne-style homes, each with a single garage, are available from £192,995, with Neale homes priced from £180,000.
Buyer’s could also get extra help with ‘Re:assure from Redrow’, a package of measures which are all designed to give home buyers confidence and to help get them moving in the current housing market. It includes measures to help people sell their current property at the best possible price, the option to part-exchange on selected plots or could include help with the monthly mortgage repayments for the first year or two.
