Banish the housing blues with a brand new home in Cambridgeshire
Tue, Jun 3rd 2008, 15:30
Contrary to media headlines, now could be the best time to buy a brand new home - with interest rates falling, UK employment at record high levels and the housing market still strongly under-pinned by supply and demand economics.
That’s the view of Daniel Mumford, director of Northampton-based financial advisers Grange Mortgages, who are available to provide mortgage advice to customers at Redrow’s new developments in Cambridgeshire.
He adds: “The perception currently for many people is that they won’t be able to get a mortgage so they shouldn’t bother trying, but this is not necessarily the case. Yes, it may be a little more difficult than previously but there are mortgage lenders who want to lend and we can help people find the product that’s right for them.”
New homes like those at The Sycamores @ Ailsworth, near Peterborough, and Redrow @ Loves Farm in St Neots have the edge over their older second hand counterparts in the current climate, not least because of the flexible choice of incentives that Redrow has to offer.
Mary Timlin, sales director for Redrow Homes (South Midlands) said: “The lack of 100% mortgage products from all the main lenders gives us an advantage over most private sellers, as we can pay a customer’s 5% deposit.
“It’s just one of the offerings in our ‘re:assure’ package of help, advice and incentives, which are designed to make buying a new home as easy as possible for all of our customers – from the moment of first enquiry right through to after they’ve moved in.
“Other options include helping with people’s mortgage repayments for up to two years, covering other moving costs like stamp duty and legal fees, or, for those with an existing home to sell, an assisted move scheme or even part-exchange.”
The developments in Ailsworth and St Neots have something for everyone from apartments to family homes.
Sitting against a backdrop of striking architecture, beautiful countryside and winding roads, The Sycamores @ Ailsworth is the epitome of a true English village.
Designed in harmony with the natural beauty of the area, the homes here form the perfect choice for buyers seeking a relaxing haven. But while the pace is relaxed, the commute to Peterborough is enviably short; with the venture situated just five miles outside of the city. And, with a journey time of only one hour from Peterborough to London, and Cambridge only 50 minutes away, purchasers are perfectly placed for commuting.
Current availability at the Sycamores includes four-bedroom semi-detached and detached houses from £299,995 and five-bedroom, three-storey homes from £439,995.
Meanwhile, closely situated to St Neots town centre, Redrow @ Loves Farm boasts excellent road and rail links.
Nearby Bedford and Cambridge are only 25 minutes away while a train to London from St Neots station will take around an hour.
The prosperous market town of St Neots has many shops, restaurants and entertainment venues, including a cinema. Undoubtedly the town’s main attractions are the Great River Ouse and Riverside Park, but the Priory Centre is also a hotbed of entertainment with attractions such as comedians, plays, sporting events and an annual folk festival.
Prices for a two-bedroom apartment start at £139,995 and a spacious four-bedroom home can be snapped up from £259,995.
