Redrow blows out its birthday candles

The month-long celebrations for the 5th anniversary of Buckshaw Village came to a flying finish at the weekend when Redrow’s hot air balloon made a floating appearance.
Catherine Bland had a bird’s eye view of the award-winning development and the surrounding countryside when the red and white balloon whisked her and her partner away for an early morning flight.
It was the finale weekend of the celebrations which began at the start of May and making sure things were taken care of on the ground, Redrow also hosted a bumper family fun day on Sunday complete with bouncy castles, children’s entertainer and fairground rides – and despite the rainy weather it proved to be a magical day for all.
Buckshaw resident Catherine, 26, who works in regulatory affairs, won the floating gift after entering a special prize draw and it’s an experience she’s unlikely to forget.
She says: “It was such a treat being able to fly over the place where I live at such an exciting height. The development has come on so much and it was lovely seeing how it has progressed over the years. It’s a trip I won’t be forgetting easily.”
The site is built on land formerly occupied by The Royal Ordnance Factory.
Other events that marked the occasion included a birthday card competition for local children, a treasure hunt, a wine tasting session and an afternoon reunion for ex-ROF Chorley workers.
Lesley Myers, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (Lancashire) says: “The celebrations have been a great success. We have catered for every age group to ensure nobody was left out and it’s been memorable.
“The point of the celebrations was to not only toast the present success of Buckshaw Village but to also remember and respect its past. We are now looking forward to the next five successful years and the memories we will gather.”
Buckshaw Village is creating a mixed-use community of around 2,000 new homes, businesses, shops and leisure amenities on the old ROF Chorley site.
