A grand day out on Maldon Prom
Mon, Jul 14th 2008, 15:15
Around 170 children with special needs have enjoyed another fun filled day out at Malden Promenade Park thanks to a cavalcade of London cab drivers and a host of local businesses.
Developer Redrow, currently building new homes at The Lakes, in Heybridge, was among those who contributed, with a donation of over £800 to help pay for activities in Maldon; and several of the house builder’s staff joined in the fun on the day.
It’s the second year that Redrow has supported the annual East London Cabbies Outing – first established in 1952 – as part of its commitment to supporting the communities in which it builds.
Beryl Williams, area sales manager for Redrow, says: “It was fantastic to see all of the youngsters enjoying themselves so much and it’s great that so many cab drivers volunteer to give their time every year. More than just a housebuilder we like to support and enhance the communities in which we operate and were delighted to play a role in this ever-popular event.”
The children, whose special needs range from being severely disabled, to downs syndrome, autism and severe learning difficulties, were collected from various pick-up points across London and given meals, entertainment, spending money, toys and goodie bags, during the trip. Once in Maldon they enjoyed an action packed day, including clowns, face painting, juggling and magic shows, horse and cart rides and a best-dressed taxi competition.
Samantha White of the East London Cabbies Outing commented: “We couldn’t put this event on year after year without the support of many different individuals and businesses. It was lovely to see members of staff from Redrow working with the local community for such a worthy cause. Having them there on the day helped give the event a great sense of community spirit and hopefully helped them appreciate too just how much their contribution is valued.”
Responsible for a range of beautiful waterside homes at The Lakes, in Heybridge, Redrow is also showing its community spirit this coming weekend with support for a family picnic in aid of the Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity, being held at Langford Grove, Langford, on Sunday (13 July) between 2pm and 8pm.
