Home is where the 'art' is in Bingham

A brand new home has proved to be the perfect blank canvas for stunning artwork in Bingham, Notts.
Working closely with Nottingham-based interior designers Bo & Jangles and 32 local artists, Redrow Homes has helped to create a unique art gallery in one of its brand new homes at Mill Hill.
The joint venture is designed to give Redrow’s development ‘stand out’ in the current market, creating extra brand awareness and inviting new visitors into the homes; while the participating artists benefit from showing their work in a new environment and reaching people who might not normally visit a gallery or studio.
Among those taking part is award winning Nottingham painter Nick Hedderly, whose view from the parapet at Nottingham Castle is on display next to a Lowry in the permanent collection at the castle. He now has four local scenes on display in the Redrow view home.
Nick said: “It’s a great idea of Redrow’s. Some people can find a gallery off-putting. Here they get to see the paintings in a domestic setting which makes them much more accessible.”
Chilwell-based Jane Rafter who has two paintings on display, including one titled ‘Nottingham Castle Gatehouse’, agrees: “It is a really good idea and much easier for people to imagine paintings hanging on their own walls when they can see them like this rather than in the more sterile environment of a gallery.”
The paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glassware, bespoke furniture and other items adorn the chic three-bedroom ‘Farnell’ style view home at Redrow’s Mill Hill venture, off Mallow Way.
Catherine Cloke, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (Midlands), says: “The most important thing for Redrow is to show our properties at their very best and make them stand out from the competition. By working with Bo & Jangles and the contributing artists to create a very unique home we have given people an extra reason to visit – and to tell their friends all about us.
“Our customers not only get to see how our finished product will look, with flooring, light fittings and window dressings included; they also get a chance to see how they could use original art in their own home to make it special.”
Christine Williams, creative director of Bo & Jangles, commented: “This is a fantastic collaboration and a novel way to introduce the work of local artists to a wider audience of potential customers.
“Redrow are known for building exciting and original homes and we have provided individual art, so we have a perfect match.
“We hope the exhibition will help Redrow customers appreciate the beauty that individually designed art could bring to their own new home, as an alternative to the mass-market items available on the high street.”
Whatever their views on art, Mill Hill certainly has something for everyone, with a range of impressive one, two, three, four and five-bedroom homes currently available from just £114,950 to £374,950.
There’s also a professionally designed and decorated fully furnished five-bedroom detached ‘Rickford’ show home open daily, which has been hugely successful in promoting this scheme to potential home owners. It’s been dressed as a classic, warm and inviting family home and even includes a pink and lavender bedroom inspired by the designs of a nine-year-old schoolgirl.
Beautifully situated in the bustling market town of Bingham and set in the breathtaking scenery of Nottinghamshire, yet within easy reach of Nottingham city centre, Mill Hill offers the perfect blend of town and country.
