Chari-‘tee’ begins at home

The house builders responsible for Stourscombe Vale in Launceston have ‘teed off’ to raise more than £6,000 for a West Country hospice.
With their golf clubs in hand, staff, suppliers and sub-contractors from Redrow Homes (West Country) took to the fairways of Exeter Golf and Country Club for a days play in aid of a local charity.
Split into 25 teams of four, the competitors fought it out for the prizes on offer at every hole as well as for the grand prize of being named the winning team. There was also an auction for a golf day at the prestigious Bovey Castle, which got people putting their hands deep into their pockets to help raise money for their chosen charity, Hospicare.
Redrow’s commercial manager Tony Franklin, who organised the event, said: “Having experienced the work of Hospicare in Exeter first hand, it has become a charity close to my heart, so when we, as a company, took the decision to have a charity golf day, the choice of which cause to support was a fairly easy one.. Everyone who participated in the day really made it a day to be remembered and helped us to raise a massive £6,100, which will go a long way to helping Hospicare maintain its high standards of care.”
Hopsicare is a hugely worthwhile charity. It offers palliative care for people with life threatening illnesses, throughout Exeter, Mid and East Devon and parts of North Cornwall. The hospice’s care does not just extend to patients but also to their families, meaning many patients can be treated in their own homes. On any given day the hospice can be caring for over 750 people, resulting in running costs over £3 million per year, of which the hospice is responsible for raising £2.4 million itself.
Suzanne Rushforth, the hospice’s corporate fundraiser said: “The money raised by Redrow will make a significant difference as it will enable us to fully fund the hospice for a whole day. To some this may not sound much but in reality this means that over 750 people will be fully supported and receiving the care that they so desperately require. We are extremely grateful to those at Redrow who put their hands in their pockets and really helped us to make a difference.”
Redrow Homes (West Country) is a new subsidiary of Redrow plc, with its sights set on the Devon, Cornwall and South Somerset housing markets. As well as building new homes across England, Scotland and Wales, Redrow contributes to the communities in which it builds and has retained the Business in the Community (BITC) PerCent Standard for three consecutive years. This voluntary benchmark recognises those companies which give at least one percent of their pre-tax profits back to the community in the form of cash, employee and management time or gifts in kind.
Redrow currently has a number of beautiful family homes available at its Stourscombe Vale development in Launceston. Situated on the outskirts of Launceston, also known as the ‘Ancient Capital of Cornwall’, Stourscombe Vale is surrounded by a wealth of charm and natural beauty.
Launceston itself contains all the main amenities such as shops, restaurants and banks as well as two fantastic golf courses of its own, the Tamar Valley discovery trail and a number of castle trails that allow you to explore the mystical past of the area. Stourscombe Vale is also perfectly situated for good transport links to Exeter, Plymouth and Truro via the A30.
Currently available at Stourscombe Vale is a selection of stunning homes, ranging from a two bedroom coach house from £135,995, to a superb four bedroom Tamar style detached family home, with en-suite and double garage, prices from £275,995.
