A ‘hole’ lot of fun at golf tournament

Wed, Jul 19th 2006, 11:00

Hundreds of golfers from all over Yorkshire descended on Malton and Norton Golf Club with dreams of becoming victorious and taking the Redrow trophy home.

The golf tournament was the first of many events that the club is holding in order to raise money for their centenary year in 2010.

House builder, Redrow, currently building a new development at Priorpot Mews in Malton, stepped up with the funds to sponsor this year’s tournament and each one until the club reaches its 100th birthday.

Linda Gurnell, spokesperson for Malton and Norton Golf Club, says: “The day was a complete success and we managed to raise a massive £2,500 in total. We also had a very generous donation from Redrow and they were the official sponsors of the winning trophy.”

The tournament itself proved to be a hit with over 200 taking part on the 18 hole, Welham course, with every starting time taken between 8 am and 3.15 pm.

“It was our first such event but we were hopeful that it would be successful due to the widespread popularity of our fabulous course. People come from far and wide to play at Malton and Norton. It gave a great kick start to the fundraising activities and we would like to thank Redrow Homes for taking part in what we hope will become a permanent fixture in our calendar. We were so pleased with the outcome of the day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.” adds Linda.

The winners of the tournament were existing members of Malton and Norton, Ian Kneeshaw and Mitch Lewis, who came joint first with a total score of 59 but one person who thoroughly enjoyed himself was David Todd, Redrow’s sales consultant at the nearby development of Priorpot Mews.

“I didn’t join in on the golf but I still had a fantastic day. The sun was shining and the golfers were really enjoying themselves. I presented the Redrow trophy to the winners at the presentation later on in the evening and I have the feeling that they will be back next year to defend the title.

“Redrow always likes to get involved in the community wherever we build, and as we’re sponsoring this tournament every year until the Centenary I may just try and win the Redrow trophy myself. It will make a nice centrepiece in our marketing suite at Priorpot Mews!” says David.

For those seeking a ‘home’ in one, Priorpot Mews is located just off Scarborough Road and currently features a range of three and four-bedroom family homes. Prices start at £172,995 and there are some fantastic deals available before the show homes open in August.

The development is situated just outside of the quintessential market town of Malton, which holds weekly street markets and regular farmers markets throughout the year. The town also offers all the necessary amenities and superb transport links to the A64, ideal for access to York and Scarborough.
