Moving’s as easy as one, two, three

Tue, Feb 28th 2006, 11:00

Buying a home was as easy as one, two, three for Emma Wilcox – for she managed to buy her first house in just two weeks and is now enjoying the benefits of three-storey living.

The 33-year-old has just moved into her first home, at Kennet Heath, a brand new urban village in Thatcham, Berkshire, and she absolutely loves the fact that being brand new, there’s little or no maintenance to do - she can just enjoy the quality of life associated with living in a new home.

As this is the first home Emma and her daughter Amy will share with her partner Gareth, she was looking for something spacious to accommodate her growing family, as well as a blank canvas that she can make her own. The solution was found when she visited Redrow’s development and fell for the three-storey Teign townhouse.

She says: “I had been renting previously and when we started looking for a three or four-bedroom house together, we were immediately taken with the Redrow homes at Kennet Heath. The size and layout of Redrow’s homes is much better than older properties I viewed and those of other developers, while the standard of the kitchen and bathroom is great – it’s all new.

“I wasn’t particularly looking for a new home but now I have one, I can definitely see the benefits of it – there’s no maintenance to worry about and we were able to move in right away, in fact within 13 working days, there was no chain to hold us up. Having three levels of living space is also a bonus - Amy has literally taken over the top floor of the house!”

Emma also appreciates the fact that the location is perfect for her work, as a manager of a mental health advocacy service in West Berkshire, as well as being close to her daughter’s school.

Paul Moran, sales director for Redrow Homes (Southern), says: “We’re delighted that Emma and her family are enjoying the benefits of their new home. Almost half of visitors to our website (www.redrow.co.uk) say they would choose a new home over a second hand property for its energy efficiency and easy to maintain qualities – something that Emma has found to her advantage.”

Almost a third of those polled also revealed that having a blank canvas to create their own style of home is another major factor in wishing to buy a brand new home.

This recent web poll is yet another indication that today’s home hunters are very much aware of the benefits they will enjoy if they purchase a brand new property.

Paul continues: “With the average household energy bill on the increase I think people are starting to realise that having a modern, better insulated new home will bring them massive savings in the long term. I would encourage all home hunters to take a leaf out of Emma’s book and come along to Kennet Heath to see for themselves the excellent energy efficient homes on offer.”

Redrow has just opened the doors to three new show homes at Kennet Heath, to show other home buyers what is on offer at this desirable development. Current availability includes a three-storey Teign, like Emma’s, from £281,450, as well as homes for people at different stages of the property ladder. These include two-bedroom apartments from £157,950, the two-bedroom Canterbury, a perfect starter home, from £183,950 and the four-bedroom detached Ouse, from £279,950.

A special £99 and move in deal is attached to the two-bedroom properties, with Redrow taking care of the 5% deposit, stamp duty and £500 towards the legal fees, as well as including free fitted carpets to help people onto the property ladder.
