Happy home owners live in Bungalows
Tue, Jan 31st 2006, 11:00
We’re a nation of bungalow lovers, as research shows that what makes us happiest is the idea of a home with no stairs rather than an upstairs.
A poll carried out by Halifax General Insurance* shows that bungalows may not have a lot upstairs, but according to a recent survey of 2,000 people they’re our favourite house type, towering above other types of homes.
The good news for home buyers in the south midlands is that Redrow is building bungalows, as well as other house designs, as part of its brand new Poppy Meadow development in the charming village setting of Long Itchington, near Southam and Leamington Spa.
Only two semi-detached Bretby bungalows are available, both priced at £199,950 and for a limited period Redrow is offering to pay the 5% deposit, worth around £10,000. Their layout includes a separate lounge, fully fitted kitchen/dining room with French doors onto the garden, two spacious bedrooms and the family bathroom complete with classic white suite.
“I’m not surprised to see the bungalow come out on top”, says Suzanne Irons, sales director for Redrow Homes (South Midlands). “It’s the most popular house type, yet only represents a small percentage of the homes that are being built nowadays because of rising land costs and government guidelines on housing density.
“The benefits of living in a bungalow are wide reaching. Older home owners enjoy the luxury of having all their living space on one floor, there are no stairs to contend with and everything is within easy reach, while for families, the lack of stairs means it’s a safer environment for young children and pets.”
Redrow’s Poppy Meadow development has only just launched and is already proving successful thanks to the mix of homes available. As well as bungalows, there is also a selection of three and four-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments.
Among the other new homes now on release is the Oaken, a one-bedroom apartment with open plan kitchen/living area and double bedroom with fitted wardrobes. It’s priced at just £149,950, while two-bedroom apartments start at £179,995.
A brand new detached, three-storey Webburn show home, styled by Redrow Interior Design, also opened recently and is giving home buyers a helping hand in visualising how their own property could look if they buy one of the larger homes at this exclusive development.
The historic village of Long Itchington is approximately eight miles from Leamington Spa and three miles from the neighbouring village of Southam, while Coventry and Banbury are commutable within half-hour drives. Both the M40 and A45/M45 are easily accessible and the journey time by train from Leamington Spa to London is just over an hour and a half.
Suzanne adds: “As well as appealing to local buyers, we are also attracting house hunters who work nearby in Leamington, Warwick, and Coventry, as well as those who commute further afield.”
