Redrow backs the ‘all blacks’

Daventry Rugby Football Club has scored the try of the season, thanks to a generous donation from Redrow Homes.

The £250 donation from the award-winning house builder has gone towards paying for a new kit for members from the three teams for next season, which is set to start in September.

Club chairman and assistant coach to the under-eight team, Gavin Rooney, said: "We were over the moon with the donation from Redrow. When our fundraising officer told us the house builder had agreed to make a contribution we jumped at the chance as we have heard wonderful things about the work they do for the areas in which they build."

The money that Redrow has provided has had a large impact on the club, nicknamed the ‘All Black Juniors’ after the infamous New Zealand team, and Gavin considers the club to be part of the area’s social fabric.

He explained: "We look after 200 boys and girls aged between six and 17 years old for 32 Sundays of the year. Some are as young as four! They play mixed rugby up to the age of twelve in a safe, friendly environment and come from all walks of life.

"There are teams for all levels of learning and physical ability and every child gets the opportunity to play. With Redrow’s help we have been able to supply the players with new kits. It’s important to have the right kit to train what could be the future players for the national side. We really can’t thank Redrow enough for their generosity."

The club’s philosophy is not about winning, but more about taking part. Gavin added: "We do like to win games, but it is much more rewarding to see a team playing for sheer enjoyment and fun. If they happen to win, then that’s great but we think a team succeeds simply by turning up on a Sunday morning in all weathers."

Redrow made the donation to the rugby club as part of their commitment to getting involved in the communities in which it builds.

Suzanne Irons, sales director for Redrow Homes (South Midlands), said: "More than just a house builder, Redrow likes to support the communities in which it builds and has a track record of supporting the arts, education and sport, both locally in and around Daventry and nationally.

"This approach has helped the company retain the Business in the Community PerCent Standard for three consecutive years. This voluntary benchmark recognises companies that give at least 1% of their pre-tax profits back to the community by way of cash donations, sponsorship, employee time or gifts in kind."

Meanwhile the rugby-loving house builder is busy ‘converting’ house hunters into home buyers at its development on Braunston Road in Daventry. Royal Park features a winning combination of contemporary one and two-bedroom apartments and a selection of two, three and four-bedroom homes.

The vast majority of customers at Royal Park have come from Daventry or the immediate area, who already recognise the value of its central position and direct links with the M6, the M1 and the M40, providing access to the rest of the country.

It is also a draw for buyers who want good schools, excellent sports facilities and a quaint market town atmosphere. The nearby Grand Union Canal and Oxford canals at Braunston are also an important factor for home buyers who love the combination of town life and rural living.
