Local home builder tackles school teams shirt problem

It wasn’t that long ago that Scartho Junior School’s rugby team was fastly approaching relegation from the ‘style’ premiership.
But, luckily for the Grimsby school team, a local business has kept them from the embarrassing demotion.
Scartho Junior School’s rugby team were in desperate need of a rugby kit. The team were playing in the school’s football shirts and with growing numbers of all ages wanting to join in on the tag rugby, new shirts were a necessity.
Redrow, currently building new homes at Kirk’s Paddock, donated £350 to the school’s rugby team, once again, reinforcing their promise of creating good community ties.
Neville Rice, head teacher at Scartho Junior School, says: “We were so happy when Redrow contacted us, asking if there was anything they could do to help our school. The rugby team immediately came to mind. It is a growing team with both boys and girls from all years wanting to play. In previous competitions they have played in the school’s football shirts. It is so much better that they can now wear their own shirts, which differentiate them from the football team.”
Julie Rayner, sales director, for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire) says: “We like to contribute to the communities we build our homes in. Our Kirk’s Paddock development is close to Scartho Junior School and when we heard that the rugby team were in desperate need of new shirts we were only happy to help. The shirts look fantastic.”
Instead of the old football shirts, Scartho Junior Schools tag rugby team will be flying the colours of their school and, coincidentally, Redrow.
“The shirts are in the school colours, red and white, which we realised were also Redrow’s colours, during the design process. The children are very excited about the new shirts and we can’t wait until our first competition,” adds Neville.
Sponsorships such as this have helped Redrow nationally to retain the Business in the Community Percent standard for three consecutive years, for giving at least 1% of its pre-tax profits back to the community in donations, sponsorship, gifts in kind or employee time.
Redrow’s Kirk’s Paddock development was launched in July 2005 and has generated immense interest from buyers. Located on the site of the former Kirk’s Farm, the development will comprise around 315 homes, in a mix of apartments, townhouses and detached properties with two, three and four bedrooms. Currently there are some fantastic summer deals on selected plots, including up to £10,000 discounts. Prices range from £149,995 to £199,995.
