Fly high with Redrow at Weston beach race
Mon, Oct 16th 2006, 11:00
Not content with being one of the major sponsors of this year’s Weston-super-mare Beach Race, developer Redrow is sending its brand new hot air balloon up into the skies above the resort to help bring soar-away success to the event.
The balloon (pictured) will be offering tethered flights to guests and spectators, subject to availability and weather conditions, during the two day motocross spectacular.
The Weston-Super-Mare beach race is taking place over the weekend of October 21 and 22 and this prestigious event is regarded as one of the biggest races on the motocross calendar. More than 40,000 people are expected over the weekend to cheer on more than 1,400 competitors taking part across three classes.
As an analogy, the annual Beach Race can be compared to the London Marathon, in that the club or fun rider can pit his wits and skill against some of the world’s elite stars like ten times world champion Stefan Everts from Belgium, and South African multi Grand Prix winner Tyla Rattray.
The entire front at Weston-super-Mare is given over to the Beach Race with a fun fair, trade site and other family activities all in full swing for the duration of the event. While extra shows like the Monster Trucks or Quad Freestyle Display on the beach, all add to the weekend experience.
Sandra Hughes, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South West), who are redeveloping one of Weston’s landmarks, Knightstone Island, said: "As part of this carnival atmosphere, we are delighted to be launching our new hot air balloon into the skies above Weston. Weather permitting, we will be offering tethered flights for people to get a bird’s eye view of the Beach Race and we also hope to be able to offer a one-hour flight to anyone who reserves a property at Knightstone Island over the weekend."
Gareth Hockey, director of RHL Activities Ltd, added: "The attendance at the Beach Race of the Redrow hot air balloon is a superb development of our new partnership with Redrow. We continually work to improve the beach race for riders, sponsors, and spectators and look for initiatives like this that bring a new dimension to the event and provide a positive return for all parties."
With thousands of visitors flooding the seafront for the annual event, Redrow sales staff will be out in force to promote the last remaining properties at Knightstone Island.
This unique venture will comprise 87 properties in total, including conversion of three Grade II listed buildings – the Pavilion Theatre, Edwardian Swimming Baths and Dr Fox’s Bath House – into apartments, duplexes and penthouses. These will be complemented by two contemporary new apartment buildings and Redrow’s scheme also includes commercial space for café/restaurant use, as well as improved landscaping, street furniture and public art.
The development is already 80% sold off-plan but there are still a good selection of apartments to choose from, with prices currently from £165,000 for a one-bedroom refurbished apartment to £400,000 for a three-bedroom new build apartment with sea views and a balcony.
The Knightstone Island marketing suite, on Weston seafront, will be open from 10am to 5.30pm during the Beach Race weekend and people should attend there to sign-up for a chance to take a tethered flight in the balloon, strictly subject to numbers on a first come, first served basis.
