Pupils paint the way for energy saving

This week (23rd – 29th October) sees the ninth national Energy Saving Week and school children in Altrincham have been busy designing posters to show how you can help.
Energy Saving Week is an initiative run by the Energy Saving Trust. The week long national campaign is to raise awareness the damaging effect of wasting energy has on the climate. This year, individuals are being asked to commit to reducing the amount of energy they use each day by 20%.
Pupils at Broadheath Primary School in Altrincham have spent the last couple of weeks designing posters that show how you can help to save energy. The posters were part of a competition organised by Redrow and Bryant Homes, the house builders responsible for eco-friendly new homes at Stamford Brook, off Manchester Road, close to the school.
Paul Brickles, project manager at Stamford Brook, speaking on behalf of both developers, says: "Stamford Brook has a great relationship with Broadheath Primary and we pride ourselves on our community relations.
"All of the children have done a fantastic job. It’s a great exercise for them. All of the posters have been judged by representatives from Redrow and Bryant Homes and the winner has received four tickets to a pantomime of their choice."
The winner, nine-year-old Devajit has the choice of either watching Aladdin at The Lowry or Snow White at the Opera House in Manchester. The two runners-ups, Cameron, aged 8, and Adam, 9, have each won a £25 voucher to spend at a store of their choice.
Paul adds: "It was really hard choosing a winner as all of the children had done a really great job. All posters will be displayed in both of our marketing suites at Stamford Brook throughout Energy Saving Week and we would welcome anyone who wishes to see them."
Stamford Brook is the perfect place to display the energy saving posters as the development features 710 new environmentally friendly homes. Created in partnership with the National Trust on land which once formed part of the Trust’s Dunham Massey estate, Stamford Brook is a unique venture that aims to demonstrate how large developments by homebuilders can offer more sustainable living.
The philosophy behind Stamford Brook is ‘to live with nature as your closest neighbour.’ Every home maximises use of eco-friendly technology and the development includes woodland walkways, greenways, cycle paths and bridges to encourage wildlife, enhance the existing environment and set an idyllic scene for rural family life.
Paul continues: "This year’s Energy Saving Week will focus on how individual consumers can make a difference by adopting small measures to reduce the amount of energy they consume on a daily basis.
"Stamford Brook is helping to minimise energy use and greenhouse gas emissions through highly insulated buildings, the use of efficient heating and ventilation systems, limiting overshadowing to maximise solar gain and constructing the dwellings to achieve stringent air tightness requirements. The homes also feature low volume flush toilets, aerated taps and water butts help keep water usage to a minimum, while residents are encouraged to segregate their own waste for recycling."
To view the pupil’s posters, visit the Bryant and Redrow marketing suites at Stamford Brook, located on Sinderland Road, during Energy Saving Week between 10am – 5.30pm.
