Stamford Brook blooms at annual awards

A Ground-breaking new homes development has been recognised at the 2006 North West in Bloom Awards.
Stamford Brook in Altrincham features 710 new environmentally friendly homes. Joint developers Bryant Homes and Redrow Homes, along with their partner the National Trust, hope to influence future building regulations through improvements to the energy performance of homes.
And now the efforts of the Stamford Brook team have been recognised with the Royal Horticultural Society’s Biodiversity Award at the annual North West in Bloom ceremony.
Catherine Prasad, project co-ordinator for Stamford Brook, says: "We’re extremely proud of all our achievements at Stamford Brook and the award thoroughly recognises all the hard work and commitment that has gone into creating this great ‘green’ living community."
North West in Bloom is a regional competition linked to the national Britain in Bloom awards, organised by the Royal Horticultural Society. Its aim is to promote community pride and involvement in the environment.
Catherine continues: "Stamford Brook thoroughly deserves this award, winning as a result of the great projects that have been undertaken, such as the river restoration. The restoration of Sinderland Brook is an important part of the overall development, which we’re all extremely proud of. We hope residents will enjoy the award-winning natural beauty that’s on their doorstep."
However, not only has Stamford Brook won the Biodiversity award in its own right; it was also included in the successful Trafford Borough Council entry for the awards.
Trafford Borough Council was crowned North West in Bloom ‘large city’ at the Royal Horticultural Society awards and ended up receiving 12 of the prestigious awards throughout the evening.
As well as being an award-winning and eco friendly community, Stamford Brook also wants to encourage more sustainable modes of transport. It will adopt an integrated transport strategy in which the dominance of the private car is reduced and where facilities for cycling and walking will take priority.
The development will also feature additional facilities for the benefit of local people such as a community woodland, recreational riverside areas bordering Sinderland Brook and children’s play areas.
Stamford Brook, which is being built on land that once formed part of the National Trust’s Dunham Massey estate, features a wide mix of apartments and houses as part of a truly sustainable community.
