Moving on up

Tue, Oct 31st 2006, 11:00

The wait is over for a couple from the south east who finally got the "quay" to the door of their dream home – second time around.

Michelle Sackey and partner Paul Hodson have just traded up to a two-bedroom apartment at Redrow’s Quay West development in Chatham, having initially settled for a one-bedroom property simply to get a foot in the door.

When Michelle and Paul moved from Maidstone to set up home ten miles away in Chatham, on the Thames Gateway, they decided Redrow’s Quay West was the ideal place to work, rest and play.

After being together for two-and-a-half years the couple had decided it was time to take the next step and Paul, the ‘first time buyer’ of the pair, wanted their first home to be right for them. Michelle explains: "I’d done it all before so I knew what we were looking for, which was good as it’s very easy to get lost when buying for the first time."

The pair wanted a two-bedroom property and Quay West’s dockside location at St Mary’s Island was a real draw.

Michelle says: "We liked the area immediately. I just loved the idea of waterside living. We found Quay West to be more affordable than properties we looked at in Maidstone but unfortunately we couldn’t afford a two-bedroom apartment at the time. Instead we bought a one-bedroom apartment just so we could call Quay West our home."

After a year of living in their one-bedroom home, luck changed for the couple and they went back to the sales office to talk about their improved financial situation.

Michelle continues: "We were happy with our one-bedroom apartment, but we still wanted a two-bedroom home. Redrow’s sales consultant, Anne, who has been so helpful and supportive throughout the year, told us the news that we had been waiting for - that we had enough to buy our two-bedroom apartment at Quay West. We were so delighted. We could finally have the home we had wanted all along."

Michelle and Paul have just moved into their dream home and are now renting out the one-bedroom apartment. Michelle adds: "I just love it here. There’s no traffic, but it’s just close enough to the action, plus the water is really relaxing - ideal after a day’s work!

"We would happily recommend Redrow to anyone interested in getting a foot on the property ladder. They provide a brilliant after-sales service and take good care of their customers."

Although Quay West is now sold out, Redrow has a number of other schemes in Kent for purchasers to choose from, including The Paddocks @ De Montfort Park in Ashford and Kingfishers in Sittingbourne, which both feature a wide selection of new homes.

The house builder has also just announced plans to bring its innovative Debut range of affordable first time buyer homes to the South East. Debut @ Sittingbourne will launch in October, with prices for the one and two-bedroom homes starting from under £63,000*.
