Home life imitating art

Local home buyers and art lovers are being invited to celebrate the official launch of the innovative ‘Dot-Art’ view home at Cressington Heath, in Garston this Thursday evening (16th November).
Award winning house builder Redrow has teamed up with Liverpool-based art movement Dot-Art to transform a show home with a ‘blank canvas’ into a fully-fledged art gallery with a twist.
Featuring the work of 15 artists, who all live and work in Merseyside, the ‘Dot-Art’ view home provides a ‘real life’ backdrop for their creations and highlights how easily art fits into the everyday home and will last for six months, until the end of March 2007.
The unveiling of this unique exhibition of art will take place from 4-8pm, on Thursday 16th November, when the Dot-Art patron will officially declare the gallery open. Visitors will be able to mingle with some of the local artists who have given their work to the exhibition, while enjoying the refreshments provided.
Lucy Byrne, managing director of Dot-Art said: “This is a unique collaboration and a novel way to introduce the work of our artists to a wider audience of potential customers, including many who might not normally visit an art gallery.
“The exhibition will also help Redrow customers to appreciate the beauty that individually designed art could bring to their own new home, as an alternative to the mass-market items available on the high street. During the exhibition visitors will be able to commission new work from our members or purchase the art on display.”
Redrow’s four-bedroom Lea view home is the setting for the gallery and each room has been given an individual theme. Visitors will be able to see floral designs in the kitchen, an urban Liverpool theme to bedroom three and photography in the master bedroom.
Christine Aitken, sales director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), said: “Redrow has successfully hosted similar exhibitions in other parts of the UK, but this is the first time we’ve done anything like this in Merseyside so we are very excited.”
“The Redrow/Dot-Art gallery is a welcome opportunity to invest in home-grown talent and provide a new and valuable resource for the arts in the shape of a unique exhibition space. It is yet another example of the innovative ways in which Redrow invests in the communities in which it builds - from providing curriculum resource packs in schools and supporting local projects to sponsoring sports teams and fundraising for charity.
For home buyers who snap up a new home at Cressington Heath throughout the six month duration of the gallery, Redrow will give them a £250 voucher to spend at the main Dot Art gallery on Oriel Close, off Water Street in the city centre.
Cressington Heath will eventually comprise 314 new homes on a 35-acre site formally owned by Associated British Ports (ABP) between Aigburth and Garston.
Once complete, Cressington Heath will offer everything from one and two-bedroom apartments, through town houses and semi-detached properties to large and luxurious detached homes.
There has been a strong emphasis towards design and layout for the scheme, which will includes nautically-inspired features on some properties to fit in with the local vernacular and proximity to the River Mersey, while a third of the total acreage is an official nature conservation area. Redrow is also contributing financially to local public transport, specifically towards the provision of a new local bus service.
Join Redrow and Dot-Art for a glass of bubbly and nibbles as they launch the new Lea view home art gallery on Thursday 16th November 4pm – 8pm.
