Redrow mucks in for charity

Wed, Dec 20th 2006, 11:00

There was plenty of mud slinging – but all in a good cause - when a home builder held a charity plant sale in Bridlington.

Would-be Charlie Dimmocks headed down to Redrow’s Cottage Farm development to hone their skills and give some money to charity all at the same time.

Julie Rayner, sales director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire) said: “The development has been a great success and now that it has almost sold out, our marketing suite is moving off site. We had lots of established plant and shrub varieties living in the landscaped garden outside – and so decided to hold a plant sale and give the money to the local Bridlington Ladies Lifeboat Guild.

“Everyone had a great time, digging up their favourite plants, and it was very heartening to find out we’d made £275.50 for them at the end of the day. It gave me great pleasure to hand the money over to such a deserving cause.”

The Bridlington Ladies Lifeboat Guild takes care of fundraising for the town’s lifeboat and its crew – which is entirely dependent on donations and money raised from events.

June Chippindale, chairman of the Ladies Lifeboat Guild committee, is overjoyed that the house builder decided to donate the money raised to them, saying: “It’s wonderful. It’s awfully expensive to run the lifeboat and so we try to organise as many events as we can cope with. For someone like Redrow to come along and offer to actually hold and organise a fundraiser for us is a big help.

“The day itself was lovely. The weather wasn’t great and so I didn’t expect many people to come, but they did, and Janice, the on-site sales consultant worked so hard to sell the plants for us. Some of our ladies made teas and coffees for the people who came down – they were jolly pleased for a drink after all that digging!”

Julie adds: “Helping out local causes like the Ladies Lifeboat Guild is incredibly satisfying, and means that we can really give back to the communities we build in. Indeed Redrow has just retained the Business in the Community PerCent Standard for the fourth consecutive year; a voluntary benchmark for companies that give at least one percent of their pre-tax profits back to the community through donations, sponsorship, employee time or gifts in kind. ”

The final property remaining at Cottage Farm is a two-bedroom, detached Hickory bungalow, which is priced at £150,995. And to celebrate the success of the development, Redrow will take care of stamp duty for the lucky purchaser, along with providing free fitted carpets throughout.

Once the last home has been sold at Cottage Farm, Redrow will have just one development in Bridlington - Eastfields, which is situated on Brett Street just off Quay Road. For more information about the new homes available there, please call the sales consultant on 01262 403009.
