Time to hit the beach

Tue, Jun 20th 2006, 11:00

Summer's here and the children of The Isaac Newton Primary School in Grantham will be feeling the sand between their toes, now they have their very own beach on which to enjoy the sunshine.

Although they’re 35 miles from the nearest coastline, the school has brought the seaside to themselves by creating a beach scene within the school grounds for the children to enjoy.

And thanks to a generous donation from housebuilder Redrow, the school’s latest feature has received the finishing touches of authentic pebbles for that real beach look.

Stephen Tapley, head teacher at The Isaac Newton School, says: “Ourselves and Redrow have a very close relationship as their Newton’s Walk development is adjacent to our school grounds. Throughout their time building here Redrow has been extremely generous and not only has the company given us the pebbles for our beach, but they have also made a cash donation towards an art sculpture, which will soon take pride of place in front of the school.

“Our new beach is a superb chance for the children to get outdoors and experience the holiday feeling for themselves. It also offers us a brilliant opportunity to use the beach as a background for learning aids and even as a stage for plays and fun days.”

However, the pebbles are not the end of Redrow’s strong link with the school. They are currently in talks to provide help with building an amphitheatre as well as a flagpole. And the children will hopefully be logging on to the Redrow Learning Web, an online learning resource with modules for primary and secondary school children that meets with National Curriculum requirements.

Catherine Cloke, sales manager for Redrow Homes (East Midlands), says: “Redrow doesn’t just build new homes. We like to build relationships with the communities in which we build and the link with Isaac Newton school is the perfect example of how it can be beneficial to everyone.

“We can’t wait to hear how the children enjoy their new ‘beach’ and look forward to continuing to work with the school on future projects.”

The Isaac Newton School is also celebrating a glowing Ofsted report which has seen the school make major improvements and is now riding high on the success of all of its hard work over the past couple of years.

The school’s Ofsted success will be music to the ears of any parents thinking of purchasing one of the new homes currently available at Newton’s Walk, a development which features everything from two-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom detached family homes. Redrow’s development is situated in the popular market town of Grantham, just a short distance from the beautiful countryside of the Vale of Belvoir.

Current availability includes the two-bedroom Argal terraced property priced from just £124,950 and the three-bedroom Fairwood property, available from £152,500.

Grantham itself benefits from excellent road and rail links and is approximately 25 miles south of the historical city of Lincoln. It is a popular choice for commuters working in the East Midlands, with both the A1 and A52 within easy reach, providing links to the surrounding cities of Peterborough, Nottingham and Leicester. Grantham train station, just a 10-minute walk away, can take commuters to London in one hour.
