A Christmas carol will remember

Wed, Dec 20th 2006, 11:00

Redrow’s Carol Dugmore has once again been out and about in Winkleigh – this time as chief judge in the village’s annual Christmas lights competition.

Since joining house builder Redrow at Winkleigh Cross, experienced sales consultant Carol Dugmore has been the girl about town in the development’s idyllic village.

Carol, who lives in Exmouth, says: “It’s been non-stop! I have helped with launches, attended the West Country Balloon Fiesta in Tavistock, which Redrow sponsored, and now I’ve been able to judge this great competition.”

Carol had to choose winners for the Best Area, Best House and Best Window categories and the competition was stiff.

“It was so hard; the people of Winkleigh had done a really good job.  Every display looked great and really got me in the festive mood.  People had really put a lot of thought into it.  The best area can only be described as 360 degrees of lights and one home looked like a traditional Christmas card, it was fantastic!” adds Carol.

However, after some painful decisions Carol had to choose a winner and Sunny View was the winner of the Best area, Ashley Edgecombe from Westcots Drive, won the Best House and Phil Brant from Moor View, had the Best Window Christmas lights display.

Mark Bridgman, chairman of the Winkleigh Fair Committee, says: “We asked Carol to judge the competition due to numerous reasons.  Firstly, we needed an independent judge who didn’t know anybody in the competition.  We also wanted to acknowledge the new Redrow development in Winkleigh and having known Carol for some time, I thought she’d be the perfect judge.

“The prizes, which Redrow Homes generously donated, included a luxury Christmas Hamper for the best house, a luxury Christmas cake for the best window display and a drinks voucher for the local pub for the best area.  All the entries did a brilliant job and they have set a very high standard for next year’s applicants.”

Carol, who has worked at Redrow’s Winkleigh Cross development since September, says:  “I was so honoured to be part the competition.  Winkleigh is such a lovely place to work.  I have learned a lot about the area in the time I have been here and have been combining my sales experience and ability with local knowledge. I am getting to know the people and the history which is a great help. Winkleigh has a very strong farming-orientated community and I have learned a lot about village life.”

One home that could be in the running for the 2007 Christmas lights competition is the long-awaited Ouse show home at Winkleigh Cross.

“The Winkleigh community is really looking forward to the show home opening, which is due in January 2007.  The four-bedroom Ouse is a great family home and will be furnished and decorated by Redrow’s own interior design company.”

Winkleigh Cross is a collection of 51 two, three and four-bedroom homes, which has captured the imagination of local home buyers and has appealed to people relocating to the area thanks to its idyllic location and breathtaking scenery.

Currently availability at the sought-after development includes the three-storey, four-bedroom Ribble and Ouse house types, priced from £247,995 and £244,995 respectively.
