Redrow gets to the ‘art’ of the matter

Children at a Bridgend primary school drew on their artistic talents recently to vie for the top prize offered by house builder Redrow.
The competition at Corneli Primary School saw children producing vibrant and colourful artworks and the winners’ efforts were well rewarded, with a £20 gift voucher for the winners and £10 and £5 vouchers for the first and second runners up.
The category for age five and under was won by five-year-old Sophie Corbett, while nine-year-old Hope James won the five to nine category and 10-year-old Tom Parsons won the 10-12 category.
Judging the competition, Redrow’s sales consultant Lisa Austin said: “All the entries were fantastic, and it was very hard to pick the winners.
“It was great to see all the enthusiasm the children put into the competition, and the terrific artwork they produced.”
The competition was held at the school because Redrow is currently building homes at the nearby Dol Gorwel scheme where a selection of four-bedroom homes is currently available.
The school’s head teacher, Jan Battrick said: “It’s great that Redrow is getting involved in the community like this. The children had great fun taking part in the competition and all the staff and children at Corneli Primary extend a big thank you to Redrow for organising it.”
Nationally, Redrow has made a big commitment to education by launching the Redrow Learning Web, an on-line resource which includes a teachers’ area to help them plan lessons and guide their pupils, meets with National Curriculum requirements and has been accredited by the National Grid for Learning.
The Learning Web is split into two modules – ‘The House Detectives’, aimed at primary school children aged eight to 11, and ‘Plan It … Build It’, which is targeted at secondary school pupils aged 12 – 16 as part of their citizenship studies.
‘The House Detectives’ enables children to compare and contrast their own community with others around the UK, while ‘Plan It … Build It’ challenges pupils to research, plan and ‘build’ a new development taking into account a full range of issues such as housing supply, planning policy, environmental concerns and sustainability.
