A grand gift

A tuneful gift from home builder Redrow was music to the ears of children and staff at a Caerphilly primary school.

A baby grand piano that used to stand in a glamorous Redrow show apartment was recently donated to Ystrad Mynach Junior School on Lewis Street.

The piano that once wooed potential buyers visiting the show apartment at the completed Altolusso development in Cardiff will now be used every morning to lead the music during assemblies.

Lynne Wallace, head teacher at Ystrad Mynach Junior School, said: “We were all really pleased to receive the baby grand piano, it is a very nice piece of equipment and now that we have had it tuned, it sounds terrific.

“It will be used every day in assembly and it will also play a key part during our concerts and talent shows, when pupils will get the chance to perform on the piano.”

Debby Pavitt, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales) said: “The piano was in the show apartment at Altolusso because of its stylish looks, but it wasn’t really played very often. I am so glad it’s now going to be put to full use.

“It’s great that we can give something back to the communities in which we build. It is important to Redrow not just to build houses but to get involved with schools and other worthwhile causes.”
         
Donations like this, together with cash donations and sponsorships have helped Redrow to retain the Business in the Community % standard for the fourth consecutive year. This is a voluntary benchmark that recognises companies that give at least one percent of their profits back to the community.

The school was chosen for the donation by staff at Redrow’s nearby development, Cwm Calon, where a selection of three, four and five-bedroom houses is currently available. Prices currently start at just £158,950 for a three bedroom Fairwood type home.
