New year, new home

James Williams thought he’d used up all his luck getting on the property ladder after twelve months of disappointing home-hunting, until Lady Luck struck again.
Now, not only is James celebrating moving into his new home at Redrow’s innovative Debut @ St David’s Park development, in Flintshire, but he has also won a year’s membership at the four-star De Vere St David’s Park Hotel.
James was one of more than 90 lucky buyers who managed to snap up a Debut home when they were released for sale in April. With starting prices under £60,000, all of the available homes unsurprisingly sold out in just two days.
James, 22, says: “I was invited to a ‘Getting on the ladder’ party at the Debut development and thought it would be good way to meet my new neighbours. I only found out about the prize draw when I got there so I didn’t think I’d win! It’s great because the St David’s Park has a great gym and I’m really excited about becoming a member.”
James, who previously lived at home with his parents in Chester, will be moving into his new home, a one-bedroom studio, at the end of January and is overjoyed that he has finally been able to get that all important first step on the ladder.
“I’d been looking for somewhere to buy for at least 12 months, but everything was out of my price range. I found out about Debut from a girl at work, who lives at Redrow’s neighbouring development Parc-y-Coed. I got in touch and luckily was able to buy a place of my own.”
“For me, Debut was just the best way to go. I think that when you’re renting, you’re just spending dead money and I’m looking for an investment. The opportunity to defer payment of 10% of the purchase price for 10 years was also a big plus point for me because effectively it is an interest free loan and has really taken the edge off the initial outlay,” continues James.
When he’s not busy, traveling the country with work, James’s main hobby is socialising and he said he is looking forward to using his new bachelor pad as a place to entertain friends.
He adds: “Living on my own, there will easily be enough space to invite people over. I’m just so excited about owning my own property. With my new home and winning the gym membership, I hope 2007 carries on the way it’s started.”
Patsy Aicken, sales director for Redrow Homes (North West), says: “People in their twenties like James want to cut the apron strings and find their freedom but often can’t afford to so – developments like Debut @ St David’s Park are helping to make the dream become a reality.
“We want to banish the pre-conception that today’s first time buyers must live at home until they’re in their thirties. With properties from under £60,000 in the Debut range, twenty-something’s can move out of the family home and into a swish pad they can call their own.
“They can also enjoy a helping hand with learning to budget, thanks to a single monthly service charge which covers all gas and electricity bills, as well as buildings insurance, external maintenance – and even the window cleaning.”
James continues: “Redrow have been helpful and accommodating throughout the whole house buying process and I couldn’t give them a higher recommendation. The Debut range is a fantastic way for people like me, who would normally struggle to buy their own home, to actually get on the property ladder.”
St David’s Park, at Ewloe, will eventually feature 97 Debut homes constructed using a lightweight steel frame combined with modern materials, which ensures quality, sustainability and energy efficiency, complemented by high performance communal heating and hot water systems.
Apart from Debut, Redrow continues to build an extensive range of sought-after family homes in desirable town and village locations throughout the North West and North East Wales including the Pentre Bach and Ty Newydd developments in Wrexham.
