An award winning site manager at a new homes development in Neath enjoys his work so much he even designed and project managed a new house of his own.

Barrie Jones recently won the ‘site manager of the year’ award from his employer, Redrow Homes (South Wales) for his work at Cwrt Penrhiwtyn in Neath, which has also seen him win three national awards.

Barrie has won the National House Building Council Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ award twice in previous years and has this year won the NHBC’s ‘Seal of Excellence’ , putting him among the top 100 site managers in the country.

This last year has  been very busy for Barrie, as he and his family recently moved into a newly built home which he designed and project managed himself in the village of Farmers, near Lampeter. On top of this, in October, Barrie and his wife, Amanda, celebrated the arrival of their fourth child, Sara.

Barrie, 29, said: “I think I won the Redrow award because I take a real pride in my work and I try very hard to keep the consistency of quality as high as possible. I also put a lot of effort into customer relations and have one of the best customer care records in Redrow South Wales.

“Creating a successful site is a real team effort and I am very lucky to have such a great team of people to work with.”

Barrie joined Redrow on the company’s graduate recruitment scheme seven years ago whilst studying for a construction management degree.

He was then promoted to assistant site manager and was promoted again to site manager when work began on the Cwrt Penrhiwtyn development three years ago.

Barrie said: “Cwrt Penrhiwtyn is a big project, with 200 homes being built on the site of the former Britton Ferry Hospital. I have been site manager right from the start and it has been extremely satisfying to see a beautiful development take shape.”

David Smith, managing director for Redrow Homes (South Wales), based at Cardiff Gate, said: “Barrie is an extremely talented site manager and he thoroughly deserves this award. He has been commended for the consistently high quality he achieves and his commitment to customer care. I am sure Barrie will have a very bright future in construction.”
