A hospice that helps children with life limiting illnesses and their families has received a £17,000 boost from a South Wales home builder.
The money was raised for Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice based in Barry, near Cardiff, at the annual charity dinner of Redrow Homes (South Wales).
Redrow’s staff, sub-contractors and suppliers dug deep during the event at the Holland House Hotel in Cardiff to raise a grand total of £17,159 for the charity.
Ray Hurcombe, chief executive of Ty Hafan said: “Our organisation is funded entirely by private and corporate donations. We need £2.4 million each year if we are to continue to provide the level of service we do now and so every little helps.
“The financial help Redrow has given us in the past has been tremendous and we are delighted that our relationship with the company continues. We extend a huge thank you to Redrow for their continued support.”
Ty Hafan has 10 children's bedrooms and eight family rooms, offering care and providing a ‘home from home’ environment. The charity also provides after-care for bereaved families.
David Smith, managing director of Redrow Homes (South Wales) said: “We have been raising money for Ty Hafan for more than eight years now and we are delighted that we can continue to help to fund the vital work they do.
“At Redrow, we are committed to supporting communities in the areas in which we have developments and the good work done by the Ty Hafan hospice is a cause in which we believe strongly.”
Of the £17,159 total, £500 was contributed as a result of the South Wales operation coming second in Redrow’s annual customer services awards.
Everyone who moves into a brand new Redrow home is contacted independently and asked to rate the level of customer service they received and whether they would recommend a Redrow home to their friends. Regional companies that score highly are invited to donate a cash prize to the charity of their choice.
Support for charities and community initiatives across the UK has helped Redrow nationally to retain its Business in the Community (BITC) Percent Standard for four consecutive years. This voluntary benchmark recognises companies that give at least one percent of their pre-tax profits back to the community in donations, sponsorship, employee time or gifts in kind.
