Big cash boost for adults who have cerebral palsy

Mon, Feb 12th 2007, 11:00

A national charitable foundation established by home builder Redrow has donated more than £24,000 to a North West cerebral palsy charity.

The cash was donated by the newly established Redrow Foundation to Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society and will be used to construct a purpose built conservatory extension to the charity’s Cheddle Lodge premises in Stockport.

The Cheddle Lodge project provides long term and respite care for up to 13 adults with cerebral palsy and associated disabilities. A team of staff and volunteers at the project provide 24 hour support, 7 days a week for those that use the service.

Chief Executive of Stockport CPS, Fergus Lomas said: “Thanks to the donation, construction of the conservatory will begin soon, and when it is complete, our service users will be able to enjoy the garden here all year round. “The conservatory will be fully accessible and will provide bright and pleasant surroundings for our users, enhancing their quality of life. “The Society gives priority to service users who have the most severe disabilities. It is therefore very important to provide them and their carers with the best possible equipment and surroundings. “We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Redrow Foundation for their generous donation, making this possible.” Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society was established in 1953 by a group of parents of children with cerebral palsy.  Since then, demand for its services has risen considerably.  The Society works to ensure that children and adults who have cerebral palsy can lead full and independent lives. Paul Pedley, executive deputy chairman for Redrow and a trustee of the Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be able to help a charity that does such tremendous work. “The Redrow Foundation is committed to providing support to the most vulnerable members of society and the work Stockport CPS does is visibly making an enormous difference to the lives of its users.” The Redrow Foundation was established last year to celebrate the company’s 50,000th legal completion, with Redrow donating an initial sum of £100,000. Since then Redrow has donated £50 from every legal completion secured, equating to a total annual contribution of around £250,000. The continued growth of Redrow will provide even greater contributions in the future. The Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support for the relief of poverty and sickness in the UK and, in particular, to providing accommodation and related assistance, including respite care, especially to children, the elderly and those who are sick or infirm. Support for charities and community initiatives across the UK has helped Redrow nationally to retain its Business in the Community (BITC) Percent Standard for four consecutive years. This voluntary benchmark recognises companies that give at least one percent of their pre-tax profits back to the community in donations, sponsorship, employee time or gifts in kind.
