New MD adds up Redrow’s growth potential

New Redrow managing director David Smith, is keen to maximise  the company’s tremendous growth potential in South Wales.

David (pictured) has taken the helm at Redrow Homes (South Wales) in Cardiff and is looking to bring the company’s ambitious expansion plans to fruition - with more high profile city centre schemes; greater use of the company’s core housing range; and spearheading growth for Redrow’s up and coming Debut product for first time buyers.

David, 48, has joined Redrow after five years with Westbury Homes, latterly as managing director and divisional chairman. Prior to that he spent 16 years with Beazer Homes.

Says David: “I was attracted to Redrow as it is a progressive, forward-thinking company, with serious expansion plans in South Wales – an area I know well.”

Based at Cardiff Gate business park, his remit with Redrow extends from Chepstow to Carmarthen. Whilst currently building at or near Cardiff, Newport, Cwmbran, Aberdare, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Bridgend and Neath, the company is actively seeking to increase its profile in the Swansea area and beyond.
 
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA), David began his career as an accountant and worked in a variety of different industries – including signal engineering, food manufacturing, computing and a brewery – before finding his ‘natural home’ in the housebuilding industry.
 

“Once I got into housebuilding I realised it was the place for me. I like the fact that you are leaving something tangible and lasting behind, creating real communities, rather than just dealing in commodities,” he added.

Originally from Bristol and currently living in Bath, David has many family links in South Wales and has spent much of his career there. He is married with four children aged between 15 and 22, and outside work he is a keen motorcyclist and also enjoys cycling and walking.
