Going off with a bang bang
Wed, Mar 21st 2007, 11:00
The famous flying car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, landed on the streets of Redrow’s Cwm Calon new homes development and ‘drove’ visitors wild with excitement.
The unique four-wheeled star of the classic 1968 film, designed and built especially for the fabulous motion picture, was on show at the development in Ystrad Mynach, near Caerphilly, for a day of fun and magic.
Bev Wookey, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales), says: “We wanted to create a real buzz at Cwm Calon while visitors came to view our show homes and find out more about living at the development. Having the car there certainly helped things go with a bang and we were absolutely delighted with the turnout – everyone had a great time especially as children and adults alike were able to sit behind the wheel and be transported into the ‘truly scrumptious’ world depicted in the film.”
Although several mock-ups of the car were made for use in the film, only one real, custom-built, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang automobile was painstakingly constructed to be used on the road. The car is street-legal and is registered as a motor vehicle in the UK with the same licence plate it had in the film, ‘GEN 11’.
As if the arrival of Chitty was not enough, visitors were treated to a family fun day filled with other special treats.
Bev adds: “There were people on stilts as well as a magician to keep visitors entertained, providing entertainment for children and adults alike!”
Cwm Calon currently features a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes and offers buyers the very best in elegant and spacious townhouse living.
Bev adds: “This new generation of homes with accommodation arranged over three floors suits customers from all walks of life, from growing families seeking more space, to downsizers who intend to use an extra room for visiting guests, a home gym or study.”
Currently available at Cwm Calon is the Neale house type that is ready and waiting to be snapped up, with prices starting from £179,950 for this fantastic home. In addition to the Neale, a variety of other house designs are available at Cwm Calon, including the three-bedroom, three-storey Malham townhouse which is priced from £182,950, so home buyers really are spoilt for choice.
Redrow’s Cwm Calon development is part of a wider regeneration of the former Penallta Colliery, which will eventually also see the refurbishment of the colliery’s power hall, winding towers, ancillary buildings and two lakes.
The immediate amenities of Ystrad Mynach and the town of Caerphilly are close by and for commuters there are good road and rail links for the 14-mile journey south to Cardiff. Surrounding the old colliery, Groundwork Caerphilly has already created a community park of some 180 hectares offering countryside walks.
For the chance to see fully dressed show homes at this fantastic development, visit Cwm Calon, Old Penallta Colliery, open daily from 10am – 5.30pm. Buyers can call 01443 862 953 to speak with a member of the sales team.
