Raising the roof for charity
Fri, May 12th 2006, 11:00
Home builder Redrow has raised more then £6,200 for charity after raising the roof at its annual charity dinner dance.
The cash has been split equally between Compton Hospice, just outside Wolverhampton, and Cancer Research UK.
Volunteers from Redrow Homes (West Midlands) Ltd collected the money through ticket sales, stand-up bingo and an auction at its annual dinner dance at the Copthorne Hotel, in Merry Hill.
Adrian Farr, managing director for Redrow Homes (West Midlands) Ltd, says: “It’s fantastic to be in a position to be able to raise money for two such worthy causes. The work they do at Compton Hospice and Cancer Research UK is vitally important and we’re delighted to be able to help in this way.
“I would like to thank all who attended the evening for their support, without their kindness we would not have been able to make such a sizeable donation. Everyone gave generously, including suppliers and sub-contractors who donated prizes, and we have been able to make a contribution that I’m sure will help make a difference.”
Located on the Western outskirts of Wolverhampton, Compton Hospice provides palliative care for patients and their families suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. The hospice is only able to do this through the hard work of its volunteers and donations from businesses and the public.
Karen Bowyer, Corporate Fundraiser for Compton Hospice, said: “Compton Hospice is delighted once again to be receiving a donation from Redrow Homes. Corporate support, from companies such as Redrow, is invaluable to the running of the Hospice. We need to raise £4.9 million a year to keep our services available to the local community, so we extend a huge thank you to Redrow for its continuing support.”
Cancer Research UK is one of the few independent organisations in the world with the ability to transform pioneering research into treatments for cancer patients. Cancer Research UK raises money with the hope to produce effective treatment and prevention for many different types of cancer.
Miranda Williams, Community Fundraiser for Cancer Research UK, said: “Redrow donates proceeds from its dinner dance to Cancer Research every year and we’re delighted that the company and its employees continue to do so.
“One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime yet we rely almost entirely on donations to fund groundbreaking research covering the causes, treatment and prevention of cancer. Volunteer fundraisers play a vital role in helping us to cure cancer faster which is why Redrow’s annual donation and the work of so many other volunteer individuals and organisations are absolutely vital to help save lives.”
Redrow regularly raises funds for worthwhile causes and this year retained its business in the Community PerCent standard for the third consecutive year, an accolade which only goes to those UK companies that give 1% or more of their annual pre-tax profits to the community by way of donations, gifts in kind and staff volunteering.
From its base in Halesowen, Redrow’s West Midlands subsidiary is creating new communities in Stoke-on-Trent, Edgbaston, Hednesford, Quarry Bank, Oldbury and Streetly.
