Twice as nice

Proving that the second time’s a charm, Martyn Woodland has won his employer’s prestigious site manager of the year award once again.

Winning awards is becoming a regular occurrence for Martyn, 56, who has been a site manager at Redrow for over 10 years. 

Despite his obvious success, Martyn is remaining modest about his achievements. He explains “Being given the award again came as a big surprise to me and I am very honoured to receive it for the second time. But I don’t feel I can take all the credit - I work with a really great team which is essential in this business, as a lot of hard work is required to build beautiful homes.”

Keith Annis, regional director for Redrow Homes (South West), says: “We are extremely proud of Martyn; he is an excellent site manager which is why he was given this award for a second time. He takes such pride in providing high standards for all his developments and is a real asset to the company. Let’s see if he can win for a third time next year!” 

The two-time winner is currently overseeing the company’s new Lakelands Edge development in Westbury, Wiltshire and is enjoying the challenge.

He says: “I’m really taking pleasure in overseeing the new homes built at Lakelands Edge. It is set to be a fantastic venture and I am proud to be part of it.”

Despite his busy schedule, Martyn, who lives with his wife Heather and his 19 year-old son Jack, likes nothing more than to relax and unwind with a game of golf. Martyn says “I have a real passion for golf, I play at least one day a week all year round, in fact, I think I may be addicted to it!

And if Martyn does decide to go for gold again, he might have some competition in the form of younger brother John who is also a site manager for the same company. He explains: “I offered John a job in construction over 12 years ago and it seems a love of the building industry runs in the family.

“John has now worked at Redrow for eight years, but even though we do the same job at the same company there is absolutely no rivalry between us – work has never affected our relationship and he was really pleased for me when I won again. Hopefully he’ll be next!”

Lakelands Edge, in Westbury, is a development of two-bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five bedroom homes. Prices currently start from £199,000 for a selection of three and four-bedroom houses.
