Female staff from a Northamptonshire-based house builder went the distance around the infamous Silverstone race track to raise £5,400 for charity.

In a bid to raise money for cancer research, the team of women from Redrow Homes (South Midlands), together with their families and friends, took part in their local Race for Life.

The Cancer Research UK Race for Life, sponsored by Tesco, has grown to become the UK’s biggest women only fundraising event. This year they hope to raise £46 million by bringing 750,000 women together to run or walk 5km at hundreds of different venues all over the country.

Although the 5km race was not quite up to Grand Prix speeds, the women took it in their stride and got off the starting blocks by raising a grand total of £2,700 for the charity through generous donations and sponsorship. This was then matched by Redrow, creating an astounding donation for such a good cause.

Heather Jackson, field sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Midlands), says; “It was such a wonderful accomplishment for all of the runners. Although we weren’t moving at racing car speeds, we all obtained our own personal bests, be it in time or achievement. Over one in four deaths in the UK are caused by cancer and many of us know someone who has been affected by the disease, so we were pleased to be able to do our bit to help.”

By doubling the amount raised, Redrow further showed its support for the Race for Life campaign.

Managing director, David Livingstone, says: “At Redrow we are dedicated to doing what we can to support charities and community initiatives in areas where we are building new homes or where our offices are based. The fact that our staff have also given their time and energy to raise cash for a worthwhile cause is something of which we are extremely proud and we fully support them in their bid to raise funds.”

Redrow’s South Midlands operation is based in Northampton and currently has a number of developments throughout the region, including Daventry, Rushden, Long Itchington, Leighton Buzzard, Corby and Desborough.
