Thatcham fitness instructor ‘homes in’ on new role

Ben Millar has swapped his vest and shorts for a shirt and tie in his new role at Redrow’s Thatcham development.
The 22-year-old’s keen interest in houses and the property market lead him into a new career as a sales consultant with Redrow Homes, having previously worked at the Regency Park Hotel in Thatcham.
Ben splits his time between Kennet Heath in Thatcham, and Redrow’s new Imperial Heights venture at Jennets Park in Bracknell. He joined through Redrow’s new recruitment process, which involves holding open day workshops to not only seek out the cream of the industry, but to also encourage people from different backgrounds to apply.
He says: “I fancied a career change and my friend Emma told me that there was a vacancy at Redrow where she worked. I’m interested in houses – I find it hard to believe that there are many people out there who aren’t – so I thought that this job would be a good way to get into property.
“Emma has always said that she likes her job and talks about it quite a lot, so I knew what I was letting myself in for. It’s early days at the moment so I’m just concentrating on taking everything in but it would be nice to move up the company into management one day.
“I am looking forward to being customer focussed and using my interest in housing to help people.”
Ben’s arrival at Redrow’s Kennet Heath brings the number of sales consultants at the flagship venture to three.
Emma Livings, 22, has worked for Redrow at Kennet Heath for nine months, and also came from a sporty background.
Emma says: “I previously worked at a health club, but I was more interested in the sales aspect of the job, which is what I do now. I came to have a look around Kennet Heath because I was interested in buying a house here. I really liked the place and it looked like a good place to work and when I saw the job advertised it sounded perfect for me.
“My favourite part of the job is dealing with the legal side of things – I like the challenge of it. There’s so much variety here – no two days are ever the same. I really love my job.”
Alongside Ben and Emma is Jenny Roberts, who has two years of service at Kennet Heath behind her. In 2006, Jenny won Redrow Southern’s Sales Consultant of the Year award.
Jenny says: “I really enjoy working here – everyone is really nice, it’s close to my home and it’s a great development. I most like dealing with first time buyers – they don’t really know what to expect so I enjoy nurturing them.”
Jenny, Emma and Ben are all on hand to help at Kennet Heath. Conveniently located just off the A4, the development boasts a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, suited to families and young professionals alike.
Kennet Heath provides easy access to nearby Newbury, Basingstoke and Reading, with the M4 and M3 motorways just a short drive away. Even better, Thatcham railway station is within walking distance and offers frequent trains to Reading and Paddington.
To be part of the growing new community at Kennet Heath, visit the development on Station Road, which is open daily 10am-5.30pm, to view a selection of fully furnished show homes, or call Ben, Emma or Jenny on 01635 863026.
