Winning combination for new project manager

With eight years of work for Redrow behind him, a home at one of their developments and a wife he met whilst working for the house builder, Ian Winsor certainly seems to be enjoying the Redrow factor.
And now the former site manager – who began his career as a bricklayer - has been promoted to project manager for Basingstoke-based Redrow Homes (Southern) and will look after an exciting new development that’s coming soon to Farnborough.
The Farnborough Central scheme is a 12-acre development on one of the UK’s most significant and historic aeronautical sites. The land was once part of the former Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) headquarters and Redrow will create a unique living environment that reflects the glamour and pioneering spirit of the aerodrome in its heyday.
The site has been purchased from Slough Estates and is adjacent to Farnborough Business Park. It will feature a total of 476 new homes, including the refurbishment of two existing buildings into apartments, as well as new-build apartments and townhouses and an element of affordable housing.
Ian, who lives near Eastbourne, says: “This is one of the biggest projects that we have had in a while and it will be a great challenge for me, which I’m looking forward to. There’s a lot more responsibility and a lot more to take on board, but I am enjoying it…so far!”
Ian has worked his way up the Redrow ladder since starting as an assistant site manager at Hunter’s Chase near Southampton, most recently working as site manager at the Porterhouse apartment scheme in Crawley.
It was whilst at Porterhouse that Ian won the National House-Building Council’s Pride in the Job Award – an accolade given to the UK’s best site managers to reward them for creating quality new homes.
He continues: “I’m really looking forward to the responsibility of being project manager for Farnborough Central and focusing on bringing together all aspects of the scheme to ensure the plans are translated into reality. Hopefully this will give me the experience, knowledge and confidence I need to become a contracts manager in the future, overseeing several developments.”
Ian has recently married wife Terri, after the couple met in 2004 at Redrow’s St Mary’s Park development in Bexhill-on-Sea, where Ian was the site manager and Terri a sales consultant.
Ian says: “Working on a housing development was the last place I expected to meet my future wife, but it was love at first sight, or should that be ‘site’, for me – and luckily, for Terri as well.”
The couple live with Terri’s daughter Billie, 12, while Ian has two children, Victoria, 16, and Tom, 14.
The Farnborough Central scheme is due to go on sale by the end of the year with the first properties likely to be ready to move into by summer 2008.
From its base in Basingstoke, Redrow Homes (Southern) also has developments in Bracknell and Thatcham in Berkshire, Eastbourne and Bexhill-on-Sea, in East Sussex, and Horsham and Crawley, in West Sussex, while new homes are also planned for Hailsham, in East Sussex.
