Longest-serving sales consultant honoured

Sandra McMillan, a salsa dancing sales consultant, certainly had something to shimmy about when she became the first in her company to receive a 10 year service award from employer Redrow Homes (Scotland).

Hamilton resident Sandra was overjoyed at receiving an award for doing the job she has loved for over 10 years, and says it was only through buying her home over a decade ago that she was inspired to pursue a career in the house building industry.

Sandra recalls: “I was working as a hairdresser for years and while training young apprentices I was made redundant. We’d just bought a new home, and when thinking about the consultant who dealt with our sale, I realised ‘I could do that, I would enjoy doing that!’ - so I contacted Redrow and landed the job.”

Receiving the award was made even more special for Sandra, as she is the longest serving original sales consultant for Redrow in Scotland.

She says:  “It was a lovely surprise and it feels very nice to be remembered. The award was presented to me by our managing director and area sales manager, who helped me celebrate along with other members of staff.”

Sandra lives with her husband Gordon and says he is very proud of her achievement, adding: “He’s really pleased for me.”

Diana Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (Scotland), based at Larbert, says: “Sandra is a credit to Redrow and we have been very fortunate to have had such a wonderful employee with us for 10 years - she really loves her job and that shows through in her work.  It is great for us to be able to give her the recognition she deserves with this award and we hope she’ll be with us for a long time to come.”
 
Sandra is currently working at Route 1 West in Anniesland, Glasgow - a venture of both apartments and townhouses offering easy access to the city’s vibrant West End - and after 10 years is still as enthusiastic about selling new homes: “I absolutely love it, I always have. I love dealing with the clients and I wish I had started in this job to begin with!”

While Sandra loves her job, after just over eight years of working as a full-time sales consultant, she decided to move to part-time a year and a half ago, in part to spend more time with her grandson Cameron, who she says is the “love of her life”. In her free time she enjoys keeping active by attending salsa classes and going to the gym.
