For the second year in a row, female staff from a Northampton based housebuilder have pulled on their running shoes to join the thousands of women across the country taking part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
The three women from Redrow Homes (South Midlands) – accounts clerk Nikki Sabin, customer services representative Natalie Chambers and sales co-ordinator Tonia Barnes - raised a total of over £700.
To date, over two million women of all ages have helped to raise over £140 million in sponsorship for the charity. This year Cancer Research UK hope to raise a further £60 million by bringing 800,000 women together at races across the country.
The Redrow trio raised nearly £360 through sponsorship prior to the event, before Redrow stepped in and doubled the amount.
Tonia Barnes says: “We have decided to run the Race for Life for a second year because it is such a worthwhile cause, with an amazing atmosphere. It is a humbling experience when you read all the messages that the women taking part have written for friends and relatives suffering from cancer. We’re really grateful to the people here at Redrow as well, firstly for sponsoring us and secondly for doubling the money that we raised. To continue to raise funds for those affected by cancer is essential.”
Even the managing director of Redrow’s South Midlands’ operation, David Livingstone, has been getting in on the act, by recently running in a Cancer Research sponsored race.
David says: “Events like Race for Life are so important in helping to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer and it is vital that people across the country continue to support them. I recently lost my wife to leukemia so it was a great feeling to run the race and feel that I was giving something back, and I know that Tonia, Natalie and Nikki all enjoyed being part of such a special event.
“Along with my children Amy and Philip, I raised around £2,400 for cancer research. Sponsored events like this are so vital to aid those affected by cancer and we will continue to support them wherever possible.”
Race for Life started in 1994 and has now grown to become the biggest women-only fundraising event in the United Kingdom. All the money raised by the thousands of participants helps to fund the crucial work of Cancer Research UK.
Redrow’s South Midlands operation is based in Northampton and currently has a number of developments throughout the region, including Leighton Buzzard, Corby, Desborough, Bletchley and St Neots.
