Four times a winner!

Thu, Aug 30th 2007, 15:00

Neath house builder Barrie Jones has won a prestigious award for every one of his four children.

For the third year running the proud Dad was chosen from 18,000 entrants to pick up the ‘Pride in the Job’ Quality award.

The site manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales) works at the company’s development in Cwrt Penrhiwtyn, Neath, Glamorgan, building a selection of three and four-bedroom homes.

And Barrie, 29, loves creating homes so much, he even spent his weekends designing and building his own property in his home village of Farmers.

He is also investing in one of Redrow’s new homes at Awel-y-mor, in Birchgrove, Swansea.

“My kids are what makes it all worthwhile,” said delighted Barrie after picking up his fourth award in total.

“I work hard to help Redrow create homes during the week and built my own at the weekend because I really love the job. I enjoy making homes people want to live in and I enjoyed using those same skills to build one for my family.”

Barrie, who lives with his wife Amanda and four young children aged between seven  years and nine months, received the award for demonstrating consistently good working practices, high quality management and motivational skills. He is one of only 400 quality award winners from over 18,000 eligible site managers in the UK.

He will now go forward to compete for the NHBC’s Seal of Excellence in September, presented to only 100 site managers.

Peter Shergold, construction director for South Wales, said: “Winning the award four times is a massive achievement and a real tribute to Barrie and his team. He is one of 12 Redrow quality award winners this year – four of whom are based in South Wales.”

Cwrt Penrhiwtyn is a development of three and four-bedroom homes just outside Neath town centre, where prices start at Ł179,995.
