A bike for a bobby? Redrow happy to help

Police officers in and around the mid-Devon village of Winkleigh are now using pedal power on the beat, thanks to a donation by local housebuilder Redrow Homes. 

Currently building new homes at Winkleigh Cross, in the village, award winning Redrow has presented a brand new bicycle to help police and community support officers in their patrol duties across the local area.

The mountain bike will be used by officers to travel around the outlying villages and hamlets near Winkleigh to increase police visibility in the area, as well as for cycle awareness training with local schools and youth groups.

Rural beat manager Sally Middleton said: “We are delighted that Redrow donated the cost of the bike. It’s fantastic that local companies want to support modern day policing and give something back to the community. It will be used to train youngsters in how to cycle properly, road awareness and personal safety, and to increase the public’s perception of security in rural areas.” 

Sandra Hughes, sales manager for Redrow, says: “Safety in the community is a paramount concern for any developer, as it is in community life. Winkleigh Cross has a peaceful but friendly feel to it and we are only too happy to be able to help keep it that way.

“The donation is also part of our commitment to supporting the communities in which we build. Redrow has retained the Business in the Community ‘PerCent’ Standard for four consecutive years for giving at least one percent of its pre-tax profit back to the community as cash donations, sponsorship, employee time or gifts in kind.”
