Starter homes under £60,000 get the go ahead

Plans for 124 new homes from Redrow’s stylish and award winning Debut range in Hilton, near Derby, have been given the go-ahead – much to the delight of first time buyers desperate to get a foot on the property ladder.
This news is a massive boost for would-be home owners who will be able to step on the ladder with a new home from just £59,995*.
The innovative new homes will be launched in June and from now until then, Redrow is inviting those interested in the Debut homes to register their details to be kept updated on the launch date.
Julia Pallister, sales director for Redrow Homes (Midlands) says: “We’re absolutely delighted that South Derbyshire District Council has given the green light to the Debut range at Hilton. We’ve already had many enquiries from people desperate to step onto the property ladder with Debut and the list is getting bigger every day.
“Redrow is a familiar name in Hilton already with our established Meadow Brook development on Welland Road. Our new Debut scheme, also on Welland Road, will add another dimension to the area, allowing first time buyers, who are undoubtedly a vital element to the home buying chain, to move out of the family home and into a place of their own.”
The new Debut development will comprise a mixture of five different house types. There will be 27 studios, 40 one-bedroom apartments, 26 one-bedroom houses, 27 two-bedroom houses and four houses that feature two bedrooms with additional workspace.
These same designs, at locations including Rugby and Castle Vale, Birmingham, have helped Redrow win several major awards, most recently ‘Major Housebuilder of the Year’ at the 2006 Building Awards and ‘Housebuilder of the Year’ from consumer property magazine Your New Home.
Redrow’s designers have turned conventional living on its head, with areas such as the open plan lounge and kitchen located upstairs in two-storey properties, while bedrooms and bathrooms are at entrance level.
High vaulted ceilings in the Debut homes allow for natural light to pour in, creating a further dimension of space.
Julia adds: “We have deliberately included a higher number of one-bedroom homes within our plans, to cater for the growing number of people choosing to go solo and buy alone. Living alone is a rite of passage for some first time buyers and with the large majority of properties being one-bedroomed, the chance to step into the unknown alone is perfectly feasible at our Hilton development.”
Debut is Redrow’s solution to making home ownership accessible, affordable and easy to manage for first time buyers, with special measures in place to prevent buy-to-let investors snapping up the homes.
Much of the cost-saving in Redrow’s Debut homes comes from the way in which they are constructed, using a lightweight steel frame and other modern methods of construction, which speeds up the build programme without compromising on quality.
The steel frames are manufactured off-site, at Swadlincote, by Framing Solutions Limited, a joint venture between Redrow and Corus.
Communal heating and hot water systems also provide cost efficiencies, as does replacing private gardens with shared high quality, landscaped outdoor space, maintained by Redrow’s own management company.
When buying a Debut home, customers can use Redrow’s ‘easi buy’ option, an interest free assisted purchase scheme. This means home owners have the option of deferring a proportion (usually 10%) of the price of their new Debut home for up to 10 years, on a fixed sum basis. This fixed sum can be paid back via occasional lump sums, monthly repayments or in whole at any time.
Debut @ Hilton is located on Welland Road, in Hilton, Derby. The village location gives excellent access to the A38 and A50, an ideal position when accessing all of the nearby leisure facilities.
